Create a Learning Engagement
- Steps: Set Up Message Builder.
- Select theLearning Campaigns Security Segmentfor your segment-based security group.
- Create an audience. Configure your audience using 1 of these methods:
- Audience Builder. See Create an Audience.
- Custom report. See Concept: Custom Reports as Audience Source.
You can use Engagement Builder to create and manage Extended Enterprise Learning and Learning engagements from a centralized workspace.

- Access theEngagement Builderreport.
- ClickCreate Engagementand enter your engagement details.SelectLearning CampaignorExtended Enterprise Campaignfrom theEngagement Typeprompt.Select theEnable dynamic removal and resendcheck box to remove members that no longer fit the audience criteria.ClickDone.
- ClickAdd Audience.SelectAudience BuilderorCustom Report Audience.Select your audience or custom report.ClickDone.
- (Optional) To create a default message for all of your engagements, clickAdd Default Message.Select a message template.Select a notification template.Enter your message details.ClickDone.
- ClickAdd Item > Learning.Enter your engagement item details.Select either:
- Due on engagement end dateto use the engagement's end date.
- Add due dateto set a due date relative to the assignment date.
ClickDone. - (Optional) Add a message to your engagement item:
- SelectAdd Custom Messageto create a custom message for your engagement item.
- Select a message template.
- Select a notification template.
- Enter your message details.
- ClickDone.
- SelectApply Default Messageto add the default message to your engagement item.
- (Optional) If your engagement item has a due date, clickReminderto add a reminder.
- Enter your reminder details. You can add 6 reminders per engagement item.
- Select a message template.
- Select a notification template.
- Enter your message details.
- ClickDone.
- ClickSubmit.
You can view engagements on the
Engagement Builder
report.
If your engagement includes a learning assignment and you've configured the
Required for You
slider, the learning assignment appears in the learner's slider.Workday automatically sends engagement items 4 times a day while respecting the recipient's time zone. For example, if you schedule an engagement to start on 2026-03-30, recipients in Dublin, IE will receive the engagement item first. Recipients in Vancouver, CA will receive the engagement item in a future run, once Workday confirms the date has changed to 2026-03-30 in the Pacific Time Zone.
