Audience Builder improves the way teams target recipients to distribute content and enables you to:
- Build requirements for an audience using data source filters and related business objects.
- Create conditions that apply to a segment of the audience.
- Create conditions that apply to the entire audience.
- Preview an audience.
- Access theAudience Builderdashboard.

Indexed data sources aren’t updated in real-time. A change in Workday may not appear in the report until the next indexing cycle. Engagement Builder automatically evaluates audiences 4 times per day, which ensures audiences are updated regularly.Data Source FilterThe selected data source determines the filters available for building your audience.If the selected data source filter contains a prompt, Workday displays aFilter Configurationpage where you can input the necessary prompt values. - As you complete theAudience Criteriaprompt, consider:

When selecting a field that has a required or optional prompt, a dialog displays, prompting you to input the values.SegmentsCreate an audience segment with a specific set of conditions. You can create multiple segments with different sets of conditions. Each segment is joined together by an OR, meaning every audience member meets all conditions included in at least 1 of the segments.If creating an audience using related business objects, select the data source and 1 of these operators:- Meets subfilter
- Doesn’t meet subfilter
When selecting a field that has a required or optional prompt, a dialog displays, prompting you to input the values.Audience Builder queries have a limit of 16,000 characters. To avoid exceeding this limit:- Use broad field conditions rather than itemizing specific values.
- Limit the number of specific values you select within a single field. This limit is about 370 values, depending on character length.
- (Optional) To name a segment, selectMore Actions > Edit Segmenton the audience segment.
- (Optional) ClickPreview Audienceto view all audience members that match your audience criteria.Preview Audienceis based on your security permissions. The audience count may differ if your permissions don't match those of the engagement's Integration System User (ISU). See Create an Integration System User (ISU) for Engagements.To add up to 20 additional columns to the preview window, clickSelect Columnsand use theSearchfield.
- (Optional) On theIndividual Exceptionssection, click:
- Add a personto add a specific person to your audience.
- Remove a personto remove a specific person from your audience.
Individual exceptions respect your report data source and any applied filters. For example, Each exception contributes to the 16,000-character query limit. - ClickSave.
Workday saves your audience. You can now use it in an engagement or export it to Worksheets.
When editing a saved audience, you can click the
Information
icon to view the audience's key metadata, such as the creator and data source.- Use your audience to create an engagement. See Create an Engagement.
