Questions to Consider

Questions
Considerations
Do you plan to enable Skills Cloud?
Without Skills Cloud, you can use the
Career Hub
to surface self-service reports from other talent management features in Workday.
When you enable Skills Cloud, you can choose to enable additional features:
  • Opportunity Marketplace in
    Career Hub
    to promote skills-based internal mobility.
  • Talent Optimization in
    Career Hub
to support skills-based career growth and development.
Do you want to use machine learning (ML) and AI to support internal mobility and career development?
When you enable Skills Cloud, these optional ML features are available in the
Career Hub
:
  • Opportunity Marketplace in
    Career Hub
: Workday uses machine learning to help workers find open work opportunities that match their skills and interests, increasing talent agility in your organization.
  • Talent Optimization in
    Career Hub
: Workday uses machine learning to support skills-based career exploration and development for employees, helping you grow and upskill your talent.
With Talent Optimization in
Career Hub
, you can also choose to enable AI-generated development items for your employees. For details, see Concept: AI-Generated Development Items.
For details about ML models, inputs and outputs, and data contributions, see Workday AI Fact Sheet: Career Hub.
Do you want to use the
Career Hub
as a platform to support skills-based talent development and career growth in your organization?
The optional Talent Optimization in
Career Hub
feature helps you promote and guide talent development.
As well as machine learning suggestions for career development, this feature enables:
  • Employees to plan and track their professional development.
  • Employees to plan career growth based on historical job transition data.
  • Administrators to create career paths to guide their employees’ long term career planning.
Skills Cloud is a prerequisite.
Which workers need access to the
Career Hub
?
You can set up security to define the worker groups that can access different features within the
Career Hub
.
Career development and performance reports in the
Career Hub
are still secured to their respective domains.
For Talent Optimization in
Career Hub
, organizations typically add full-time employees with self-service access. Contingent workers can’t access this feature.
Managers don’t gain access to their direct reports' information in the
Career Hub
, but they have complete self-service access as
Career Hub
users to further their own career development.
How do you want to guide long-term career planning for your employees?
With Talent Optimization in
Career Hub
, you can enable the Career Path Builder to help employees plan career moves towards a target role.
You can enable 1 or more types of sources for suggested next moves, including historical job transition data, skills-based machine learning matches, and career paths that your organization defines.
Consider your Workday data that supports each source:
  • The amount of historical job transition data.
  • The quality of skills data for your workers and job profiles.
  • The stability and robustness of your job architecture.
For details, see Concept: Career Path Builder.
What talent functionality do you plan to use?
To enable all functionality available in the
Career Hub
, Workday recommends configuring these talent features as a part of your setup:
  • Anytime feedback
  • Career connections
  • Check-ins
  • Development items
  • Employee reviews
  • Flex Teams
  • Individual goals
  • Learning
  • Manager Insights Hub
  • Mentorships
  • Opportunity Graph
  • People Experience
  • Recruiting
Do you plan to use Workday Projects?
In Workday Projects, project managers usually directly assign workers to their resource plans.
When you enable the
Projects to Work On
section in Opportunity Marketplace in
Career Hub
, employees can find and express interest in project assignments that match well with their skills.
Project managers can choose whether to enable each of their projects for display in the
Career Hub
.
To surface projects to employees with the appropriate skills, project managers also need to add skills as project role requirements.
For details, see Create Projects.

Recommendations

  • When you implement Opportunity Marketplace or Talent Optimization in the
    Career Hub
, start with a small part of your organization. Use the feedback and experience from this group to refine your solution before introducing it to the broader organization.
  • When you only enable flex team opportunities for Opportunity Marketplace, create a selection of available flex teams before giving workers access.
  • When you enable jobs for contingent workers, create an internal career site for non-workers so they can search for and apply to jobs . For details, see Create Internal Career Sites for Non-Workers.
  • Ensure job profiles are public and descriptive to make it easier for employees to express interest in job openings for suggested job profiles in Talent Optimization in
    Career Hub
    .
  • For Workday Recruiting customers:
    • Consider adding
      Jobs Hub
      reports to the
      Career Hub
      suggested links.
    • The
      Browse Jobs
report is available in global search. However, consider encouraging users to discover job opportunities on the
      Suggestions for You
      page in the
      Career Hub
      .
    • The
      Jobs Hub
      is searchable. Consider removing the
      Careers
      worklet and not adding the
      Jobs Hub
to the Workday home page menu.
If you are using skills-based ML features in the
Career Hub
, consider these best practices to improve your tenant’s underlying data for ML suggestions:
  • Encourage your organization to use explicit skills in Workday. To support skill-based talent development, Workday uses explicit skills heavily in ML features.
    • Encourage workers to add 10-20 skills and 5-10 skill interests on their worker profile.
    • Encourage owners of job profiles, flex teams, and projects to add required skills. Add skills that are unique to the role, instead of using the same general skills for many of your work opportunities.
  • If you enable maintained skills for matching, consider replacing maintained skills with an equivalent Skills Cloud skill if it exists.
  • For Talent Optimization in
    Career Hub
    :
    • Ensure that mentors access the
      My Mentorship Preferences
task to make themselves available and update their mentor skills.
    • If you use the
      Skills
      or
      Skill Interests
sources for next steps in the Career Path Builder, add explicit skills to job profiles to support suggestions for these sources.
  • For Opportunity Marketplace in
    Career Hub
    :
  • To ensure that opportunity matching works in your implementation tenant, access the
Maintain Weekly Machine Learning Activation for Implementation Tenant
    task and select the
HCM ML Features and Third Party Connectors GA
service check box. This task enables Workday to refresh matches every Monday. To refresh matches manually once every 24 hours, access the
Run On-Demand Machine Learning Activation for Implementation Tenant
task. These tasks are specific to your implementation tenant only, and are not supported in Production or Sandbox tenants.
    • If you've opted into
HCM Machine Learning Early Access (EA) Features
      using the
      Innovation Services Opt-In
task, you must select both this service check box, and the GA option, when running the
Maintain Weekly Machine Learning Activation for Implementation
      task.
    • Similarly, to refresh matches manually, you must select both GA and EA check boxes when running the
Run On-Demand Machine Learning Activation for Implementation Tenant
      task.
    • Unless both GA and EA are selected when running either task, neither service will complete successfully, and models for both selections won't be created.

Requirements

You might need to take additional steps to enable this feature depending on your organization's subscription service agreement. For more information, see this Community article.
To enable Opportunity Marketplace or Talent Optimization in
Career Hub
, you must contribute data from your tenant for AI features.
For Universal Main Subscription Agreement (UMSA) customers, Workday automatically opts your tenant in to contributing this data. If you opt out of contributing data for a
Career Hub
feature, your workers cannot access it. For details about:
For Main Subscription Agreement (MSA) customers, you must enable innovation services and opt in to data contribution. For details about:

Limitations

  • We strongly discourage removing these pages from the hub:
    • The
      Overview
page, since it's the entry point for the hub. If you remove it from the hub, your workers can't open the hub unless they directly access one of the reports within it. Instead, customize the content of the
      Overview
page to meet your organization’s needs.
    • Pages in the
      Browse Opportunities
section. If you remove 1 of these pages, workers can still access it by clicking
      Browse All
      on the
      Suggestions for You
page, but the navigation menu is removed from the browse page.
  • Workday does not include crowdsourced skills in machine-learning matching.
  • Career interests and suggested projects aren't supported for contingent workers.
  • Match analyses and candidate recommendations only update every 24 hours, Monday through Friday, so when you create or update a job, flex team, or project, workers' career development opportunities don't update immediately.
  • When creating or editing development items in the
    Career Hub
    , the
    Generate with AI
prompt is not available on mobile devices.
  • The
    Save to Plan
option isn’t available for suggested projects.

section, you can:
  • Enable flex teams, jobs, and projects as opportunities in the
    Career Hub
    .
  • Enable suggested learning courses for workers viewing their flex team match analysis.
  • Restrict suggested jobs to a worker's primary location. Selecting this option restricts suggested jobs to the worker's country, designated by the primary location for the worker. For example, if a worker's primary location is San Francisco, the worker only receives suggested jobs with a location in the United States.
  • Configure help text and location exclusions for AI-generated development items in the
    Career Hub
    and
    Manager Insights Hub
. See Steps: Enable AI-Generated Development Items.
On the
Edit Tenant Setup - Notifications
task, in the
Notification Delivery Settings
section, you can:
  • Configure notification settings for Flex Teams and Marketplace Opportunity Promotion in the
    HCM
    category.
  • Configure notification settings for
