Concept: Transfer Grades

For transfer credits granted from external courses and education tests, Workday grants transfer grades based on the transfer grade mapping policy.

Transfer Credit from External Coursework

When students have external coursework that qualifies for transfer credit, Workday grants the transfer grade based on:
  • The grade point value of the external grade, as defined on the educational institution grading scheme.
  • The internal grade that corresponds to that grade point value, as defined on the transfer grade mapping policy.
Educational institutions may have different grades with the same grade point value. Example: Fail and Audit grades have zero grade point value. You can configure override grades using:
  • Configurations in the educational institution grading scheme.
  • Grade options for override grades in the transfer grade mapping policy.
The configuration options for the override grade do not determine whether the grade earns credit towards the student’s academic progress or is included in GPA calculations. You’ll need to configure these options on the internal grading schemes that define the transfer grades.
For GPA calculations, Workday uses the grade point value of the transfer grade from the internal grading scheme, not the transfer grade mapping policy.
Example
As an administrator at Alma Mater University, you want to configure Workday to enable students to transfer from Sherwood College and receive appropriate transfer grades.

 task, define the internal grades that AMU assigns for transfer credits, and whether these grades earn units or are included in GPA calculations. See Create Student Grading Schemes.

Transfer Credit from Multiple External Courses

When transfer credit for an internal course is awarded from multiple external courses, Workday calculates a weighted average grade point value based on the number of attempted units. From the effective transfer grade mapping policy, Workday then looks for the highest

 (Workday-delivered or custom) that doesn’t exceed the calculated weighted value, and grants the corresponding default

Transfer Credit from Education Tests

For education test results that satisfy the applicable transfer credit rule, Workday grants the transfer grade defined in the bottom grid on the
Maintain Transfer Grade Mapping Policy
 task.
You can define:
  • The same transfer grade for all education tests.
  • A different transfer grade for each education test.
