Create Student Grading Schemes

Create Student Grading Schemes

You can create grading schemes to define:
  • The grades that a student can earn upon completing a course.
  • How Workday displays grades in a student academic record.
You can:
  • Create grading schemes with effective dates.
  • Designate grading schemes for institutions.
  • Only assign grades from the grading schemes that belong to a student’s institution.
To import grading schemes into Workday, you can:
  • Use the
    Put Student Grading Scheme
    web service.
  1. Access the
    Create Student Grading Scheme
    task.
  2. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
    Name
Enter a unique name for the grading scheme. You can't use the same grading scheme name across multiple institutions in a tenant.
    Grading Basis
    Grade Points
Workday populates these fields with the values on the
    Grade Element
    you select.
    You can change the
    Grade Points
    from the default value.
    Earn Units?
Select the check box to use this grade as a passing grade in the academic progress evaluation of the student.
    Include in GPA?
Select the check box to include this grade in the student's overall grade point average (GPA) calculation.
When the check box is unchecked, Workday:
    • Doesn’t include the course in GPA calculations.
    • Hides grade points for this course grade on reports that display the student’s grades. Examples: Academic history and academic record.
    • Doesn’t count registrations with this grade as a course attempt towards the student’s repeat limit.
    Repeated for Grade Improvement?
Select the check box to enable students to repeat a course when they receive this grade. Before students can repeat a course for a grade improvement, Workday ensures that:
    • They've received this grade.
    • The course isn't
      Repeatable for Additional Credit
      .
    • The student hasn't exceeded the attempt limit set on the course attempt limit policy.
When this check box is unchecked, Workday prevents students from repeating a course where they receive this grade.
    Grade Category Type
Workday uses the grade for the processes that you select.
    Example: For a
    Grade Element
    of
    W
    , you select the
    Grade Category Type
    of
    Course Section Withdraw
. When a student withdraws from a course section during the withdrawal period, Workday:
    • Uses
      W
      in the
      Registration Withdraw Event
      business process.
    • Posts
      W
      on the student's academic record.
    Grade Note Required
You can select this check box only when you select the
    Grade Category Type
    of
    Allow Grade Notes
    .
Select this check box to require grade notes during submission of interim and final grades. Grade notes enable you to store important information for certain grades. Example: Incomplete or failing grades.
    Last Date of Attendance Required
You can select this check box only when you select the
    Grade Category Type
    of
    Allow Last Date of Attendance
    .
Select this check box to require the last date of attendance when assigning final grades.
Example: You might want this information for withdrawal or incomplete grades.
    Public Grade Display
Enter how the grade displays on the academic record.
    Workday:
    • Recommends that you specify a public grade display for each grade. It can be the same as the grade element.
    • Uses public grade displays for automatic historical student credit activations.
    Display Grade Notes to Student
You can select this check box only when you select the
    Grade Category Type
    of
    Allow Grade Notes
    .
You can use the
Find Student Grading Schemes
report to manage and view details about the grading schemes by institution.
