Reference: Time Entry Methods
Time Tracking provides several methods for entering time. The available options for workers depend on:
- Business process security policies.
- Time entry configurations.
Method | Description |
|---|---|
Time entry calendar | Workers and managers enter and edit time on a calendar. The classic time entry calendar offers weekly and monthly views. The period time entry calendar supports weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, and monthly views. The start and end dates of the period depend on the period schedule. See Concept: Enter Time by Period.
You can configure these time entry options on any calendar view:
You can also configure Enter Time By Week on the classic calendar. Workers use the Enter My Time report, and managers use the Enter Time for Worker report to manually enter or update individual time entries on the time entry calendar using Micro-edit.Employees who can use Time Tracking to enter time and who also have access to Workday Chat can verbally enter time for the current day. |
High volume time entry (HVTE) | Workers enter time on a grid instead of a calendar, which can be beneficial for performance when large numbers of workers are entering time simultaneously. You can configure these time entry options with HVTE:
Workers use the Enter My Time task, and managers use the Enter Time for Worker task to enter time for the week of the date they select. |
Check in/check out | Workers record their start and end times using the Time worklet on a desktop or mobile device. This method enables your workers to report precise in and out times. |
Home page cards | Workers check in and out from their Home page. See Reference: Time Tracking Cards. |
Project time entry | Project workers record hours-only project time in a grid using:
|
Mass enter time | Managers and timekeepers enter time or absences for a group of workers for a single date using the Mass Enter Time report. They can enter in/out times or hours, depending on the time entry code or absence they select. |
Mass autofill time | Administrators schedule the Mass Auto-fill from Schedule task to run regularly to automatically generate reported time from:
|
Mobile enter time | Workers enter and submit time on a calendar in blocks using the Workday mobile app. |
Mobile check in/check out | Workers use the Workday mobile app to record their in and out times for a shift or day. On the time entry template, you can configure:
When you combine Workday Scheduling with Time Tracking:
See Reference: Time Tracking and Scheduling Features in Workday Mobile. |
Time kiosk | Workers check in and out using the Workday Time Kiosk app on a company tablet. See Concept: Time Kiosk. |
Time clock history | Use these reports to add, edit, and delete time clock events.
|
Edit and Approve Time report | Review, edit, submit, and approve time for workers in a consolidated view. |
Adjust Calculated Time task | Enables users to update the dates and quantity of calculated time. |
Time clock integration | Administrators import large volumes of time blocks or time clock events from third-party time collection systems into Workday. This method uses these web services to load time in batches:
|
Microsoft Teams | Workers check in and out or enter time using the Workday app for Microsoft Teams. See Steps: Set Up Workday Everywhere Using Sana Self-Service Agent for Microsoft Teams and Microsoft 365 Copilot. |
Slack | Workers check in and out using the Workday app in their Slack workspace. See Steps: Set Up Workday Everywhere Using Sana Self-Service Agent for Slack. |
Self-Service agent | Workers use conversational language to check in and out and enter time blocks. See Self-Service Agent Skills. |
