Set Up External Unit Type Conversion Policies

Set Up External Unit Type Conversion Policies

  • Set up unit conversion for your institution. See Steps: Set Up Unit Conversion.
  • Security: These domains in the Student Records functional area:
    • Set Up: Academic Records
    • Set Up: Transfer Credit
You can set up rules on external unit type conversion policies to define the conversions between:
  • Course unit types from external educational institutions.
  • Student unit types at your institution.
You only need to create policies for educational institutions with unit types that convert differently from the ones at your institution. When a policy doesn’t apply, Workday uses the rules on the
Maintain Institutional Unit Type Conversion Policy
task by default. See Set Up Institutional Unit Type Conversion Policies.
When applicable, Workday uses external unit type conversion policies in transfer credit evaluations, to calculate units awarded to students consistently. Workday converts these unit types on external transcripts from educational institutions:
  • Course units earned, to determine whether the external coursework meets the minimum unit requirement for transfer credit rules.
  • Course units attempted, to calculate the number of internal equivalent units to grant for the transfer credit.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Unit Type Conversion Policy

For transfer credit evaluations, Workday uses the unit conversion policy that’s effective for the:
  • Educational institution.
  • Course start dates for the coursework on the external transcript.
Workday displays the unit type conversion policies for educational institutions on the:
  • Find Unit Type Conversion Rules
    report.
  • Unit Type Conversion Rules
tab on the educational institution profile.
Your institution uses semester units, and Bristol Community College uses quarter units. When students from Bristol transfer to your institution, you'll need to convert units on their coursework to grant them transfer credit.
To convert 4 quarter units to 3 semester units, specify:
