Steps: Set Up Unit Conversion
You can set up Workday to convert units when a student earns credit in a unit type different from the student unit type on their primary program of study. Calculating all earned units in the same unit type ensures accuracy and consistency in tracking:
- Load status.
- Class standing.
- Academic progress.
- Grade point average (GPA).
- Financial aid.
Workday also uses unit conversion to evaluate transfer credit for students correctly, using the institutional unit type conversion policy for your institution. You can also set up external unit type conversion policies for unit types that convert differently from the ones at your institution.
Example: A student takes classes at a school with a semester calendar and transfers to your school that uses a quarter calendar. To assign transfer credit correctly, Workday must convert the semester units to quarter units.
- Specify the default and allowed course unit types.
- Assign the student unit type to an academic unit and level or a program of study.
- Define the conversions from course unit types to student unit types.
- (Optional) Set Up External Unit Type Conversion Policies.Define the conversions from course unit types at external educational institutions to the student unit types at your institution.
Workday converts course units to equivalent student units based on the student unit type on the academic calendar policy:
- During course registration.
- In transfer credit evaluations. Workday uses the external unit type conversion policy for the educational institution. When an external unit type conversion policy doesn’t exist for the educational institution or for the desired conversion, Workday uses the institutional unit type conversion policy.
- On the student view of courses and course sections.

report on the Academics profile group of the student profile.
