Set Up Institutional Unit Type Conversion Policies

You can set up rules for converting different types of course units across your institution. By displaying units in consistent unit types, students can have a more accurate understanding of their course load.
Institutional unit type conversion policies don’t apply for articulating internal credit.
Workday uses institutional unit type conversion policies in transfer credit evaluations, to calculate units awarded to students consistently. Workday converts these unit types on external transcripts from educational institutions:
  • Course units earned, to determine whether the external coursework meets the minimum unit requirement for transfer credit rules.
  • Course units attempted, to calculate the number of internal equivalent units to grant for the transfer credit.
When an educational institution uses unit types that are different or convert differently than your institutional policies, you can use the
Maintain Unit Type Conversion Policy
 task to define conversions for the educational institution. See Set Up External Unit Type Conversion Policies.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Institutional Unit Type Conversion Policy
     task.
  2. Complete the task:
    Option Description
    Course Units
    Enter the number of course units to convert. This value must be greater than zero.
    Course Unit Type
    Select the type of course unit to convert.
    Equal Student Units
    Enter the number of student units that the course units are equal to.
    Student Unit Type
    Select the type of student units to convert to.
  3. Click
    OK
     and
    Done
    .
Workday calculates and displays all earned credit consistently in the same unit type based on the student unit type on the calendar policy for the student’s primary program of study.
You can view institutional unit type conversion policies on the
Academic Unit Policy Viewer
 report for the institution.
At your institution, 3 quarter units is equivalent to 2 semester units. In the institutional unit type conversion policy, specify:
