Concept: Pell Load Status Calculations

Workday determines the FPRD based on a period to period and student to student basis. For more information, see Reference: Final Pell Recalculation Date Examples.

Workday determines whether a course counts towards the Pell load status depending on when a student with an instance of Pell Grant registers, withdraws, or drops from a course. These scenarios illustrates when a course counts toward the Pell load status:

Before	The student drops or withdraws before CSSD and PRD.	No.
After	The course has already started and CSSD has already passed.	No
After	The course has not started yet. The student registers before CSSD and there is no drop deficit to fill.	No.
After	The course has not started yet. The student registers before CSSD and there is a drop deficit to fill.	The course only counts for Pell load status up to the number of units in the drop deficit.

Workday provides the following Pell load status unit types so that students can receive appropriate financial aid when adjusting course enrollments:

Maximum Pell (POS) units, which is the maximum number of units a student can use to count toward Pell (POS) load status.
Potential Pell (POS) units, which is the number of units from a student's registered courses that are eligible for Pell (POS) load status.
Pell (POS) units, which is the lesser of the maximum and potential load status unit values. These units are also referred to as the Final Pell Load Status Units. Workday uses these units to recalculate the Pell Award at the FPRD.

Workday doesn't track the withdrawal deficit for Pell load status.

Workday counts dropped courses toward the maximum load status units but not potential and final load status units. When a student drops a course after the FPRD, Workday counts the course toward the maximum load status units. When a student drops a course after the FPRD but before the CSSD, Workday creates a drop deficit.

When a student registers for another course after the FPRD but before its CSSD, then that course counts toward the Pell load status up to the amount the student has in the maximum load status.
