Configuration Metrics
help you monitor the size of you model and changes to your model over time and provide insights to factors that might be affecting the performance of your model. We display a KPI chart for some of the configuration elements that are likely to affect the performance of your model. These elements include things like the number of versions, levels, dimension values, and linked accounts. Each KPI has a line graph that displays changes over time. By default, the line graph captures the previous 30 days, if data is available.
Each KPI also displays the value of the element for the last day in the selected time range. Color indications let you know when your current values are above our benchmarks for optimization.
We collect the metrics every day at midnight UTC. It takes 2 days to load the configuration metrics into the charts. Charts only display metrics:
- From the time that the Planning Center became available to your instance.
- At least 2 days prior to the current date.
- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- ClickPlanning Centerto display theConfiguration Metricspage.
- From the toolbar, select a day or a 31-day time range within the previous 90 days. You must select a day, or a range that ends, at least 2 days prior to today's date.
- For the KPI charts that are orange, consider taking these actions:KPI Chart NamePossible Actions to TakeVersions
- Delete old and unused versions.
- Minimize theLeft Scroll Limitfor new plan versions. See Concept: Left Scroll Limit.
- Turn off audit trail before locking versions. See Turn On Audit Trail for Versions.
- EnableCalculate Formula Valuesfor the version. See FAQ: Deprecation of Calculate Formula Values.
Levels- Simplify the level hierarchy by using level attributes instead of new levels. See Concept: Level Dimensions and Attributes.
- Remove any concatenations.
- Make levels unavailable in versions or sheets. See Change Level Availability.
- Delete old and unused levels.
Dimensions- Use list dimensions with attributes instead of hierarchical dimensions. See Create Attributes.
- Make unused dimensions or unavailable in versions. See Change Version Availability for Custom Dimension Values.
- Remove dimensions that represent different granularities of the same data. See Delete Unused Dimensions Values in Bulk.
Dimension Values- Use dimension attributes instead of hierarchical dimension values.
- Plan at a different level of granularity.
- Remove unused values.
- Group insignificant values together into a single value.
Dimension AttributesIdentify and delete unused attributes. Resolve dependencies before deleting them. See Delete Attributes and Attribute Values.SheetsUseSheet Metricsto identify:- Unused sheets that you can delete.
- Sheets that perform slowly so that you can make changes to them.
Remove sheets that display only locked cells. You can build reports with this data instead.See Check Sheet Metrics.Snapshot ReportsUseReport Metricsto identify:- Unused reports that you can delete.
- Reports that take too long to load. You can split larger reports, use filters, or use parameters to improve the performance.
See Check Report Metrics.Shared ReportsUseReport Metricsto identify:- Unused reports that you can delete.
- Reports that take too long to load. You can split larger reports, use filters, or use parameters to improve the performance.
See Check Report Metrics.Custom Accounts- For custom accounts with default formulas, add data entry overrides for actuals versions. See Add or Change Account Formulas and Overrides.
- Identify and delete unused accounts. Delete Accounts.
- Consider if the custom account can exist on the General Ledger hierarchy or as a standard cube on a specific cube sheet.
Cube Calculated Accounts- Use data entry override for actuals versions. See Add or Change Account Formulas and Overrides.
- Combine accounts that hold actuals and plan data separately.
- Remove them from the sheet. They still calculate in the background and you can use reports to review the data. See Change Availabilities in Cube Sheets.
Modeled Calculated Accounts- Review dependencies on accounts to see if any are unused, and remove unused accounts.
- Minimize the accounts used to store calculations from other accounts.
Linked AccountsRemove any chained linked accounts. Example: Account A links to Account B. Account B links to Account C. Remove Account B and link Account A directly to Account C.
