Setup Considerations: Custom Drivers

Setup Considerations: Custom Drivers

You can use this topic to help make decisions when planning your configuration and use of custom drivers. It explains:
  • Why to set it up.
  • How it fits into the rest of Workday.
  • Downstream impacts and cross-product interactions.
  • Security requirements and business process configurations.
  • Questions and limitations to consider before implementation.
Refer to detailed task instructions for full configuration details.

What It Is

Custom drivers replace the previous Company Questions functionality. They are groups of questions created to track and measure a specific theme or company initiative. Unlike the former feature, custom drivers offer greater flexibility by allowing you to create question groupings using Peakon standard questions and custom questions.

Business Benefits

  • Increased Flexibility
: Combine questions from Peakon standard question sets (Example: Engagement, Health & Wellbeing, or Transformation & Change) with your own custom questions
  • Contextual Visualization
    : Create custom drivers (Example:
    Manager Effectiveness
) that pull from various data sources, providing a clear, high-level aggregate score on a single page for managers and senior leaders.
  • Strategic Alignment
: Better measure and visualize your organization's key strategic priorities within Peakon.

Use Cases

  • Create a Custom Company Driver containing relevant questions from the Engagement question set (Example:
    Management Support
) and your company's own custom questions related to leadership development.
  • Aggregate internal questions on workload with relevant questions from the Health and Wellbeing question set (Example:
    Role-related Stress
    ) to create a
    Burnout
    driver.
  • Group existing Peakon questions and custom questions that specifically assess organizational values and psychological safety to create a
    Workplace culture
    driver.

Questions to Consider

Questions
Considerations
Which key strategic priorities does your organization need to measure and visualize?
Custom drivers work best for ongoing themes important to your business, such as
Manager Effectiveness
or
Innovation
.
Which combination of standard and custom questions best represents the strategic theme you are measuring?
Review all available questions across standard question sets to ensure you ask the right questions when you set up the custom drivers.
Who should have access to the data outputs of the Custom Drivers?
Access is controlled via Access Control groups. You must decide which users should access this data. If you give someone access to a custom driver, they will get access to all the questions within that driver, even if they don’t have access to a relevant question set.
Can I use AI to assist in question selection?
AI Custom Drivers leverages a Large Language Model (LLM) to map your goals to the most relevant questions even if they do not share exact keywords.

Limitations

  • Custom Drivers rely only on internal benchmarks (the company average), as external industry benchmarks are not available.
  • A Custom Driver can include a maximum of 15 questions.
  • Custom Drivers do not have a separate question set dashboard like core sets (Example: Engagement, Diversity & Inclusion), but their data is viewable across the heat map, Curated insights, Drivers and Question Scores pages.
  • Only 2 years of historical data will be included in the score over time graph when creating a new Custom Company Driver.
  • Participation at a Custom Company Driver level is not available.
