FAQ: Custom Drivers

Will Custom Drivers have external benchmarks if I use Peakon only questions?
No, they will not. Our external benchmarks are not calculated dynamically based on the individual questions grouped together. Benchmarks are created by our data scientists on static question groupings. Providing them dynamically as you add them to a Custom Driver would result in incorrect data.
How is the overall score for a Custom Driver calculated?
The overall score is calculated the same way as it is for every other driver in Peakon: it is the aggregate average of the scores of all the questions included in that driver. You can see an example in Concept: Engagement Score.
Can I have more than 15 questions in one custom driver?
Unfortunately this is not possible and the maximum you can add is 15 questions. This is due to maintaining a good level of performance within your account balanced with best practice on how many questions should be within a custom driver.
Is historical data included in a custom Driver?
Yes, when you add already existing Peakon questions into a custom driver the last 2 years of historical data will be included and shown on the score over time graphs and in the round comparator on the Heat map.
How can I manage access to a custom driver?
You will be able to determine who gets access to a created Custom Driver via the access control settings within administration. By default, anyone with access to the entire question set will also get access to the newly created custom driver. If you want to restrict this, you can remove access to the question set for a certain control group and then grant access to specific drivers.
Granting access to a custom driver gives access to all the questions within that driver, even if the individual does not have access to the relevant question set.
How many questions per custom driver are recommended?
Good measurement should aim to assess a concept or theme with as few questions as possible - think minimum viable need. For most organizations, we recommend a structure of 3 - 5 questions per driver. For highly specialized or sensitive drivers -
custom drivers
(Example:
Burnout Risk, Innovation
, or an Organizaitonal KPI) - you may expand this to upwards of 10 to ensure you’re capturing the full complexity of the topic.
How do I formulate a good combination of questions?
A strong custom driver should provide a 360-degree view of a single concept or theme. First consider the validated custom drivers Peakon offers. These are based on research and are common key performance indicators for many organizations. When building your own, consider combining questions that balance the following:
  • Questions that measure the feeling or end result (the “what”). Example:
I feel a sense of belonging at [Company]
    .
  • Questions that measure daily behaviors and interactions (the “how”). Example:
I have mutually supportive relationships with my colleagues
    .
  • Questions that measure the systems or conditions to support (the “where”). Example:
I have the right tools to collaborate effectively.
How does AI Custom drivers select questions?
The feature leverages a Large Language Model (LLM) to perform semantic analysis on the input.
  • Intent Analysis: The model analyzes the administrator's text to understand the underlying themes and measurement goals.
  • Semantic Mapping: It maps these goals to specific drivers and sub-drivers within the user’s question library, identifying related questions even if they do not share exact keywords.
  • Validation: A post-processing step validates the AI-generated suggestions against the actual question library to ensure all proposed questions exist and are valid, filtering out any "hallucinations".
  • Human Review: The proposed index is presented to the administrator, who can review, accept, edit, or reject the proposed questions for inclusion in the custom driver specification.
