Troubleshooting: Student Can't Register

This topic provides strategies for diagnosing and resolving issues with student registrations.
We recommend that you use the
Registration Troubleshooting Console
report to help with your diagnosis.
Cause
Solution
There's no course component that controls grading for the course.
Security:
Manage: Curriculum Management
in the Student Records functional area.
  1. Access the
    Find Course Definitions
    report.
  2. Select
    Course Definition
    Edit
    from the related actions menu of the course.
  3. In the
    Course Components
    grid, select the
    Controls Grading
    check box for 1 component.
Date controls configured incorrectly or not at all.
Security:
Set Up: Academic Calendar Controls and Dates
domain in the Academic Foundation functional area.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Academic Period Date Controls
    task.
  2. Specify these date controls:
    • Drop Without Record End
    • Enrollment Window End
    • Enrollment Window Start
    • Last Add Date
    • Open Enrollment Start Date
The course section is unpublished.
Security:
Manage: Curriculum Management
domain in the Student Records functional area.
Publish the course section. Students can only register for published courses with an
Open
status.
  1. Access the
    Find Course Section Definitions
    task.
  2. From the related actions menu of the course section, select
    Activity Offering
    Publish
    .
  3. Click
    OK
    .
The student can't access the course due to the enrollment access and grading policy that applies to their academic unit and level configuration, or program of study.
Security:
Set Up: Academic Policies
domain in the Academic Foundation functional area.
Update the enrollment access and grading policy for the student's academic unit and level, or program of study.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Enrollment Access and Grading Policy
    task.
  2. Add a row to include the course in the policy.
The student has a hold on their profile that prevents them from registering for courses.
  1. Access the
    Active Holds
    report on the Action Items and Holds profile group of the student's profile.
  2. From the related actions menu of the hold, select
    Holds
    Remove Hold
    .
The student is attempting to register for a course section while already enrolled in a course section that's:
  • From the same course.
  • During the same academic period as the course section they're attempting to register for.
Workday considers this registration as a duplicate registration, and waitlists the student if possible. Otherwise, the registration is unsuccessful.
This doesn't apply to courses created with the
Special Topics Course
and
Allow Concurrent Enrollment
check boxes selected.
Drop the section that the student has already enrolled in.
  1. Access the
    Current Classes
    report on the Academics profile group of the student profile.
  2. From the related actions menu of the course section that you want to drop, select
    Student Course Registration
    Drop
    .
