Set Up Course Section Clusters

Set Up Course Section Clusters

  • Create course sections.
  • Security:
    Manage: Course Sections
     domain in the Student Records functional area.
You can group specific combinations of course sections and components that students must register for together. You can override cluster requirements on the
Register Student for Course
 task.
Examples:
  • Students registering for MATH 101-02 (lecture) must register for ECON 101-03 (lecture).
  • Students registering for BIOL 152-01 (lecture) must register for CHEM 270-02 (lecture) and CHEM 270-L-02 (laboratory).
  • Students registering for ENGL 200-01 (lecture) must register for any of these workshops: ENGL 200-W-01, ENGL 200-W-02, and ENGL 200-W-03.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Course Section Clusters
     task.
  2. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
    Courses to Cluster
    Select:
    • 1 course to cluster multiple sections of the same course.
    • Multiple courses to cluster sections of different courses.
    Instructional Format
    Select from the course components you configured on the
    Create Course
     task.
Workday:
  • Displays cluster requirements on the
    View Course Section
     report for students.
  • Ensures that students add or drop all sections in a cluster during registration.
