Set Up Course Equivalency Groups
- Create courses.
- Security:Manage: Course Inventorydomain in the Student Records functional area.
You can create course equivalency groups to identify:
- Courses that overlap in content.
- Purposes for which they're equivalent.
Courses in equivalency groups can:
- Have different subjects.
- Belong to different academic units.
- Be taken as a series.
Courses can't be in more than 1 course equivalency group with the same usage per effective dates.
- Access theAdd Course Equivalency Grouptask.
- Select a course.
- Complete the task:
Option Description Start Date / End DateThe period of time during which the courses are considered equivalent.Equivalency UsageIdentify how the courses are equivalent:- Academic Requirement: Enrollment in the courses can satisfy academic requirements for each other.
- Enrollment Requisite: These courses satisfy prerequisite and corequisite course requirements for each other.Example: Math 101 and Math 102 are in an enrollment requisite equivalency group. If Math 101 is a prerequisite for Math 201, students can use Math 102 to satisfy that requirement.
- Grade Replacement: For these courses, Workday processes student grades based on the course repeat policy for their primary program of study.Example: ACCT 201 and ACCT 202 are in an equivalency group. The course repeat policy isBest Attempt. The student earns an A grade in ACCT 201 and a C grade in ACCT 202.ACCT 201 counts towards the student's earned units and GPA.
- Maximum Unit: The maximum number of units earned when students complete more than 1 course in the group.
A group can have 1 or more of these equivalency usages.Maximum UnitsWhen you selectMaximum Unitas an equivalency usage, enter the maximum number of units.Equivalent CoursesWorkday automatically populates the selected course. Select at least 1 more course.
Workday:
- Processes the courses in the group as equivalent for the usages you specified.
- Includes all course listings of a course definition in the equivalency group.
- Displays the group on the Course profile group of the course profile of any course that belongs to it.
- To edit course equivalencies, access the course profile and select from the related actions menu in theCourse Equivalenciesgrid.
- To deactivate a group, make theEnd Dateof the group the same as theStart Date. Make sure that these dates are equal to or greater than the first effective date for the selected courses. You can’t delete a group.
- To view details about the course equivalency groups, access theView Course Equivalency Groupreport.
