Example Steps: Create Student Registration-Based Fees

This example illustrates how to set up fee calculations based on the amount of the student's registered units.
You're an administrator at Alma Mater University. You want to create fee calculations based on the total number of units that an undergraduate student registers for in the Fall 2026 semester.
Your institution charges tuition based on the number of units registered. The rates are:
Load
Rate
Part time (<12 hours)
$300 per hour
Full time (12–18 hours)
$5,000 flat rate
Overload (>18 hours)
$5,000 flat rate, plus $300 for every hour over 18 hours

  1. Access the
    Create Charge Adjustment Schedule Group
    task.
    1. Enter these values:

    Find Student Charge Items
    report.
    1. In the

      . Leave everything else blank.
    2. Click

    3. From the related actions menu of the
      Tuition - Tiered
      charge item, select
      Student Charge Item
      >
      Edit
      .
    4. Delete the entry in the
      Charge Calculation
      field.
    5. In the
      Charge Proration
      field, select
      Charge Adjustment Schedule Group
      , and then select
      RBF Fall 2026 for Alma Mater University
      .
    6. Click
      OK
      , then
      Done

  5. Calculate overload fees for students registered for more than 18 units.

    Create Student Registration-Based Fee
    task.

Registration-based fees are now available in the
Transaction Summary
report on the Student Financials Summary profile group of the student's profile page.
