Example: Calculate Overload Fees (Registration-Based Fees)

This example illustrates how to use registration-based fees to calculate an overload fee for students who register over a certain number of units. The example includes arithmetic calculations.
Alma Mater University charges tuition based on the number of units registered, and an additional overload fee to students who register for over 18 credit hours. The rate for overload students is a 5000 flat rate, plus 300 for every hour over 18 hours.
Security:
  • Set Up: Calculations - Generic
     domain in the Core Payroll functional area.
  • Access Calculation (Segmented)
     domain in the functional areas for Core Payroll, Implementation, Payroll Interface, and Time Off and Leave.
  • Set Up: Student Charges
     domain in the Student Financials functional area.
  • Set Up: Time Off (Calculations - Generic)
     domain in the Time Off and Leave functional area.
  1. Access the
    Create Arithmetic Calculation
     task.
    Calculate the number of overload units
    1. Enter these values:
      Field

      SF AC Reg Units - 18 = Overload Units
      Category
      Student Financials

      Comment
      Determine the number of overload units that the student has enrolled in.
      1st Operand
      Registration-Based Fees: Total Registered Units

    2. Click
      OK
       and
      Done

  2. Access the
    Create Arithmetic Calculation
     task.
    Calculate the number of overload credits.
    1. Enter these values:

      Calculate the cost of the overload units.

  3. Access the
    Create Arithmetic Calculation
     task.
    Add the overload fees to the flat fee.

The registration-based fee is available for you to assign to students. After you set up the registration-based fee assignments, Workday charges students tuition based on their registration load.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Student Registration-Based Fee Assignments
     task to assign the fees to students.
