Example: Calculate Fees for the Campus Recreation Center

Example: Calculate Fees for the Campus Recreation Center

This example illustrates how to create calculations of fees for the campus recreation center.
At Alma Mater University, the fee for the campus recreation center varies depending on:
  • How many units the student is registered for.
  • Their campus location.
  • Their class standing.
Based on the number of registered units, the fee is:
Number of Units
Fee Amount
Fewer than 12
300
12-15
500
16 or more
500 + 20 for every unit over 12 units
For students at any campus except for the main campus, this fee includes the fee for the student health service of 186. Students at the main campus pay the fee for the student health service separately, so their campus recreation center fee is 186 lower.
First-year students pay no more than 200 for their fee for the campus recreation center.
  1. Create step-based conditions to identify students with specific ranges of registered units.
  2. Create step-based conditions to determine students with both:
    • A main location of the main campus.
    • A freshman standing.
  3. Create a step-based calculation to calculate the recreation fee based on the number of registered units, taking into account:
The calculation is available for you to add to a student charge item. You can view the calculation on the
All Step Based Calculations
report.
When you calculate the fee for the campus recreation center for these students, you get these amounts:
Student
Campus Recreation Center Fee Amount
Student A
  • Class Standing: Freshman
  • Enrolled in 4 units
  • Location: Main Campus
114.00
Student B
  • Class Standing: Freshman

  • Location: New York City Campus
200.00
Student C

Create a student charge item for the campus recreation center fee and add the calculation to it.
