Concept: NSLDS Data in Packaging

The National Student Loan Data System (NSLDS) collects student loan data, such as:
  • Aggregate loan amounts.
  • Federal Pell Grant lifetime eligibility.
Workday receives NSLDS data through NSLDS transactions. NSLDS transactions linked to an award year occur when you import a student’s ISIR. You can also request NSLDS data from the Department of Education (ED) by running the
TSM and FAH NSLDS Outbound
integration. To import the data that ED returns, you can use the
TSM and FAH NSLDS Inbound
integration. To view NSLDS data for a student, navigate to the
NSLDS
tab on the Financial Aid profile group of their student profile. You can edit the data or override NSLDS flags. See:
When need packaging runs, Workday uses data from the most recent NSLDS transaction that exists as of the first disbursement in the financial aid award year. During packaging, Workday uses NSLDS data to:
  • Calculate award amounts for Pell Grant and Direct Loan awards.
  • Determine eligibility for these awards by assessing the amount remaining of a student’s lifetime loan limit amount.
NSLDS only provides Workday with summary data. Our calculations don’t include historical detail about which loans are included in NSLDS aggregates.
Workday doesn’t automatically run packaging when it receives updated NSLDS or FAH data. You can use custom reports and calculated fields to identify students who have updated data and manually repackage them as necessary.
You can view the NSLDS aggregate and lifetime amounts that Workday used in a financial aid package on the

report. To access the report, navigate to the
Total Financial Assistance
tab on the Financial Aid profile group of a student’s profile and select

For non-legacy borrowers in award year 2026-2027 or later, Workday shows

for the fields that don’t have FAH or ISIR source values. Workday displays these fields on the

report only for financial aid packages on or after August 1, 2026:
  • COD Loan Limit Exception
  • Graduate Aggregate Total Balance
  • Lifetime Maximum Total Balance
  • Professional Aggregate Total Balance
Whereas for legacy borrowers, Workday displays the fields on the report only for financial aid packages created on or after 2026-2027 award year.
