Example: Create Accomplishments to Satisfy Academic Requirements

This example illustrates 1 way to create and use an accomplishment activity rule to satisfy a student's academic requirement.
Brian is a graduate student at Alma Mater University, working on their thesis. You want to configure the thesis work as an accomplishment to satisfy their academic requirement. You create an accomplishment type and then create an eligibility rule for the type. You then create the academic requirement and configure it for the academic unit Brian is in. Finally, you add the requirement to the academic record for Brian.
When Brian completes their thesis, you mark it as
Completed
. Upon submission, the requirement displays as
Satisfied
 on their
Academic Progress
 report.
Security:
  • Manage: Academic Requirements
     domain in the Academic Advising functional area.
  • Manage: Student Accomplishments
     domain in the Student Records functional area.
  • Set Up: Academic Records
     domain in the Student Records functional area.
  • Set Up: Student Eligibility Rules
     in the Academic Advising functional area.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Student Accomplishments Types
     task.
    1. For
      Academic Unit
      , select
      Alma Mater University
      .
    2. Add a row and enter a type name. Example:
      Thesis
      .
    3. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  2. Access the
    Manage Student Accomplishments Types
     task.
    1. Select the
      Student
      , and click
      OK
      .
    2. For
      Accomplishment Type
      , select
      Thesis
      .
    3. For
      Accomplishment Date
      , select a date for the completion.
    4. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  3. Access the
    Create Student Eligibility Rule
     task.
    1. From the
      Eligibility Rule Type
      , select
      Accomplishment
      .
    2. Click
      OK
      .
    3. Enter a descriptive rule name. Example:
      Thesis - Grad Study
      .
    4. For
      Academic Unit
      , select
      Alma Mater University
      .
    5. Set up the
      Eligibility Criteria
      :
      • For
        Number of Accomplishments
        , enter
        1
        .
      • For
        Accomplishment Type
        , select
        Thesis - Alma Mater University
        .
    6. Click
      OK
      and
      Done
      .
  4. Access the
    Create Academic Requirement
     task.
    Create an academic requirement for the academic unit
    Alma Mater University
    , using the
    Thesis - Grad Study
     accomplishment eligibility rule you created.
  5. Access the
    Configure Academic Requirements
     task.
    Add a row for the
    Thesis - Grad Study
    Academic Requirement
     that you created.
  6. Access the
    Launch Academic Progress Evaluation
     task.
    1. Select the
      Student
      .
    2. Select the
      Confirm
       check box.
    3. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  7. Click the
    Academic Progress
     report on the Academics profile group of the student profile.
  8. View the accomplishment requirement that you created. Complete the requirement after the student finishes it.
    1. Access the
      Maintain Student Accomplishments
       task.
    2. Select the
      Completed
       check box for the accomplishment.
    3. Click
      Submit
      .
  9. Access the
    Launch Academic Progress Evaluation
     task for Brian and run the evaluation like you did before.
Access the
Academic Progress
 report for Brian. Notice that the
Status
 of the
Requirement
 is
Satisfied
.
