Example: Create Overrides for Total Academic Requirements

This example illustrates how to exclude and assign registrations to a student's overall progress or total academic requirement (TAR).
Mary has
120 Units Defined
on their
Overall Academic Progress
(or TAR), which comprises of 2 eligibility rules:
60 units in residency
and
120 units (with a GPA of C or greater)
. You want to exclude
COM-101
from the
60 units in residency
eligibility rule because it also applies to the other eligibility rule. Mary has already completed
COM-111
, but the registration isn't applying to the TAR. Both courses are 3 units. You want to assign
COM-111
from
Unused Registrations
to the eligibility rule
60 units in residency
. Because Mary has already received 3 units, the course will apply to their
Units Satisfying
count.
  1. Access the
    Override Total Academic Requirement for Student
    task for Mary.
    Select the
    Total Academic Requirement
    Create Override
    requirement related actions in the
    Overall Academic Progress
    grid on the
    Academic Progress
    report.
    Security:
    Academic Requirement Override Event
    business process in the Academic Advising functional area.
  2. In the
    Override Type
    prompt, select
    Exclude Registration
    .
  3. To exclude the registration
    COM-101
    :
    • In the
      Eligibility Rule
      prompt, select
      60 units in residency
      .
    • In the
      Course Registrations to Exclude
      prompt, select
      COM-101
      .
  4. Click
    Submit
    .
    Wait for the business process to complete before attempting to assign the registration.
  5. Access the
    Override Total Academic Requirement for Student
    task for Mary.
  6. In the
    Override Type
    prompt, select
    Assign Registration
    .
  7. To assign the registration
    COM-111
    :
    • In the
      Eligibility Rule
      prompt, select
      60 units in residency
      .
    • In the
      Course Registrations to Assign
      prompt, select
      COM-111
      from
      Unused Registrations
      Completed
      .
    • Leave the
      Units Assigned
      as
      3
      .
    • Leave the
      Ignore Grade
      option clear.
  8. Click
    Submit
    .
    Wait for the business process to complete.
Workday displays both overrides on the
Total Academic Requirement Assignment
preview window and on the
View Total Academic Requirement Assignment
report.
After the academic progress evaluation, Workday updates the
Overall Academic Progress
report by:
  • Applying the 3 units from
    COM-111
    to
    Units Satisfying
    .
  • Decreasing the
    Remaining
    units by 3.
  • Decreasing the
    Unused Registrations
    count by 1.
