Business view data sources offer a user-friendly way to access and utilize your data. You can use them to transform raw, technical data into meaningful, human-readable information, helping you focus on what matters most while filtering out the noise.
You can use a business view data source to:
  • Enable business users to understand and analyze information without needing to know the technical details of the raw data.
  • Present a simplified and focused perspective on your data.
  • Pull raw data from 1 or more sources.
  • Transform and organize data meaningfully.
Business view data sources are similar to Workday-delivered reports and dashboards. They enable you to view essential information without sifting through raw data yourself. You can customize Workday-delivered business view data sources to fit your organization's specific reporting needs.
Example: You operate a restaurant with individual data sources for inventory ingredients, sales records, employee hours, customer feedback surveys, and marketing campaign results. You can use business view data sources to combine all this raw data and organize it in a way that's useful for these specific business questions:
  • What is my sales performance by product? You can combine data from sales records and product pricing to see which baked goods are selling best, their profit margins, and sales trends over time.
  • How am I managing my inventory? You can focus on ingredient levels, supply orders, and expiration dates to identify which ingredients are running low, predict future needs, and avoid waste.
  • How satisfied are my customers? You can pull data from customer surveys and link it to specific products or employee interactions to determine overall customer happiness and identify areas needing improvement.
