Maintain Career Paths Using the Put Company-Defined Career Path EIB

You can add, update, and delete multiple company-defined career paths by loading values into Workday from a spreadsheet.
This task involves:
  • Creating an inbound EIB based on the
    Put Company-Defined Career Path
    web service.
  • Adding data for your company-defined career paths to the EIB spreadsheet.
  • Loading the spreadsheet data into Workday.
  1. Access the
    Create EIB
    task.
  2. Complete the
    Create EIB
    section and click
    OK
    .
    • Name
      : Enter a name.
    • Select
      Inbound
      .
  3. Click
    Next
    .
  4. From the
    Web Service Operation
    prompt, select
    Put Company-Defined Career Path (Web Service)
    .
  5. Click
    Next
    3 times to advance to the
    Review and Submit
    step, then click
    OK
    .
  6. (Optional) To enable generating the template with prepopulated data, add a filter to the template model.
    When accessing the
    View Reference IDs
    report, select
    Pre-defined Career Path
    from the
    Business Object
    prompt.
  7. From the related actions menu of the integration system, select
    Template Model
    Generate Spreadsheet Template
    .
  8. (Optional) Select the
    Generate Spreadsheet with Data
    check box to populate the spreadsheet with data for the career paths included in your filter.
  9. Click
    Submit
    .
  10. Access the
    My Reports
    report.
  11. Click
    OK
    .
  12. Click the file name of the spreadsheet to download it.
  13. Enter data in the spreadsheet.
    The EIB overwrites existing data for each career path that you include in the spreadsheet. For example, if you want to add a step to a career path, make sure to include its existing steps in the spreadsheet to avoid removing them.

    Specify a unique value for each career path. Enter the same value for each spreadsheet row that applies to that career path.
    Add Only
    (Optional) Specify

    to prevent updates to an existing company-defined career path for this spreadsheet key.
    Company-Defined Career Path
    (Optional) When you leave this field empty, Workday creates a new career step and automatically assigns a value.
    To update or delete an existing career path, specify the reference ID in this field or in the
    Company-Defined Career Path ID
    field.
    To find IDs, access the
    View Reference IDs
    report and select
    Pre-Defined Career Path
    from the
    Business Object
    prompt.
    Company-Defined Career Path ID
    (Optional) Leave this field empty for a new career step, or specify the reference ID of an existing step in this field or in the
    Company-Defined Career Path
    field.
    Company-Defined Career Path Deleted
    (Optional) Specify
    Y
    to delete the career path.
    Row ID
    Specify a row ID for the career step. Each step in the same career path must have a unique row ID.
    Career Step
    (Optional) For a new career step, leave this field empty. Workday automatically assigns a value.
    To update the order or job profile for an existing step, specify the step’s reference ID.
    Each step can only be part of 1 career path, and you cannot repeat the same step multiple times in a path.
    Career Step ID
    (Optional) Specify the step’s reference ID.
    For a new career step, leave this field empty. Workday automatically assigns a value.
    For an existing step, leave the field empty unless you want to update the step’s ID.
    Career Step Order
    Specify the order of the career steps.
    1
    is the most junior step in the path. You can add up to 50 steps in each path.
    Career Step Job Profile
    Specify the reference ID for this career step’s job profile.
    To find IDs, access the
    View Reference IDs
    report and select
    Job Profile
    from the
    Business Object
    prompt.
    If you create a career path with the same job profile for more than 1 step, employees may encounter errors when using the path.
  14. From the related actions menu of the integration system, select
    Integration
    Launch / Schedule
    .
  15. Click
    OK
    .
  16. From the
    Value
    prompt on the
    Integration Attachment
    field, select
    Create Integration Attachment
    .
  17. Click
    Select files
    and add the spreadsheet file.
  18. (Optional) To test the integration without modifying any data in your tenant, select the
    Validate Only Load
    and
    Add Errors to Attachment
    check boxes.
  19. Click
    OK
    .
  20. Refresh the page when the process finishes to view the execution summary and messages, including any errors.
You can view your updates in the
Maintain Company-Defined Career Paths
report.
