FAQ: Why is My Overall Score Not The Average of All Driver Scores?
This topic explains why the overall score (Example: Overall Engagement score) does not include scores from other drivers. Example: Growth or Autonomy drivers.
For customers who had their Peakon instance created from the 31st March 2026 onwards, unless you opted out, you will be using the Flexible listening question model which has an updated question library. In this question model, the Engagement score is made up of 7 questions and not 4 questions as part of the Flexible listening question model.
For customers who had their Peakon instance created before 31st March 2026, you will continue to use the existing Workday Peakon Question model until we make it possible for you to upgrade to the flexible listening question model in the 26R2 and 27R1 release cycles. The question library remains the same.
You can think of the overall score as its own 'Driver'. Using the Engagement score as an example, it's composed of these 4 questions, although your organization may not use all 4:
- How likely is it that you would recommend [Company] as a place to work?
- How likely is it you would recommend [Company]’s services to friends and family?
- If you were offered the same job at another organisation, how likely is it you would stay at [Company]?
- Overall, how satisfied are you working at [Company]?
In the flexible listening question model, the engagement score is composed of these 7 questions, although your organization may not use all 7:
- How likely is it you would recommend [Company] as a place to work?
- How likely is it you would recommend [Company] products or services to friends and family?
- I often feel energised by the work I do.
- I am able to find time to focus on my work without distractions or interruptions.
- How likely is it that you would stay with [Company] if you were offered the same job at another organisation?
- I am proud of the work that I do.
- Overall, how satisfied are you working at [Company]?
The overall engagement score is the average of each employee's own engagement score, which, in turn, is the average of their latest answer to each of these 4 questions (7 questions if you are using the flexible listening question model), as long as those scores are within your company's visibility period (the options are 3 months, 6 months or 1 year).
The engagement score is not an average of all other driver questions. Having said that, there can be a correlation between engagement and some other drivers. Example: If an employee feels positive towards Growth at your company, they may also be more engaged overall and feel more loyalty towards the company. However, in terms of the calculation, the engagement score is purely made up of its own questions, as is every other driver score.
