Set Up Course Attempt Limits

Set Up Course Attempt Limits

You can:
  • Set limits on the number of times students from can repeat a course for grade improvement.
  • Create course attempt limit policies for academic unit and level configurations.
When an academic unit and level configuration doesn't have a course attempt limit policy and it owns courses that aren't configured to be repeatable for additional credit, then students won't be able to repeat those courses for grade improvement.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Course Attempt Limit Policy
    task.
  2. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
Number of Repeated Course Attempts Allowed
Enter the total number of times a student can attempt a course.
Example: To allow the student to repeat a course once after their initial attempt, enter
    2
    .
Workday excludes courses that you set as
    Repeatable for Additional Credit
    .
Include All Transfer Credit in Repeated Course Attempts Allowed
Select the check box to include transfer courses when Workday evaluates whether a student can repeat a course.
Exclude Grade Categories from Attempt Count
Select the grade categories that you want to exclude from the course attempt count.
Example: When you configure a course attempt limit policy to exclude
    Incomplete
grade categories and a student receives an
    Incomplete
grade on a course section, Workday won't count that section as 1 of their course attempts.
    When you exclude
    Administrative Failure
    or
    Failure
grade categories, Workday also doesn't display notes for failed courses on the
    Academic History
    report of the student.
Workday enforces the limits that you configured during course registration.
You can view course attempt limit policies on the
Academic Policy Viewer
report.
