Assign Packaging Strategies to Academic Units

  • Security:
    • Set Up: Merit Packaging
       domain in the Financial Aid functional area.
    • Set Up: Need Packaging
       domain in the Financial Aid functional area.
Assign packaging strategies to:
  • An academic unit and level.
  • A program of study, program focus, or program area.
The packaging strategy assigned to an academic unit and level or program of study determines which award items students receive and the order in which they receive them.
  1. Access the relevant task:
    • Maintain Merit Packaging Strategy Assignments
    • Maintain Need Packaging Strategy Assignments
  2. As you complete the task, consider:
    Option Description
    As of Effective Date
    Select the date when the packaging strategy should take effect. Workday recommends selecting an effective date that's before or as of the standard start date of the first academic period you're packaging.
    Academic Unit, Academic Level
    Select the academic unit and academic level to which the strategy should apply. The packaging strategy applies to students of the academic unit and level you select, as well as the academic level of subordinate units.
    Program of Study, Program Area
    Select the program of study and program area to which the strategy should apply.
  3. As you assign packaging strategies, consider:
    Option Description
    If
    To assign the packaging strategy to:
    • Only students who meet certain conditions, select the calculation that represents the condition. You can also select
      Create
       to add a new condition.
    • All students of the academic unit and level or program of study, leave this field empty.
    When you add more than 1 row to the grid, Workday assesses conditions in the order that you configure them.
    If you have a PLUS loan award item in your packaging strategy, assign the strategy only to dependent students. For independent students, create a packaging strategy that doesn't include a PLUS loan award item.
    For Grad PLUS loans, assign the packaging strategy only to the
    Graduate
     academic level.
You can assign multiple packaging strategies to an academic unit or program of study in an award year. This is useful when:
  • A student changes programs of study in the middle of the year. Different programs of studies might have different packaging strategies.
  • An undergraduate student becomes a graduate student in the middle of the award year. See Concept: Midyear ISIR Progression.
  • The packaging strategy itself changes in the middle of the award year.
