You can assign awards to students automatically by creating merit and need packaging strategies, which define the award items to give and the order in which they should be given.

Student payment sources such as sponsor contracts, waivers, and external awards aren’t included in merit and need packaging strategies.

Access the relevant task:

Create Merit Packaging Strategy

Create Need Packaging Strategy

Add a row for each student award item to include.

Workday packages awards, including locked awards, according to their order in the grid. You can select awards with a current or future effective date.

As you complete the task, consider:

Option	Description
COA Required	Applies to merit packaging. Select to limit the award to the student's cost of attendance (COA), which you must calculate before packaging the student. When you don't select this check box, the award amount might exceed the student's unmet COA.

You can use these reports to find the packaging strategies:

Find Need Packaging Strategies

Assign the packaging strategy to academic units or programs of study.

If you added a PLUS loan award item to your need packaging strategy, use the

Maintain Need Packaging Strategy Assignments

task to assign the strategy only to dependent students. For PLUS loan awards specific to graduate students, create a separate packaging strategy and assign it only to graduate-level academic units or programs of study.
