Concept: Midyear ISIR Progression

Concept: Midyear ISIR Progression

Starting with the 2024-2025 financial aid award year, Workday enables midyear ISIR progression so that students transitioning from undergraduate to graduate programs in the same award year can have 2 active ISIRs (1 graduate and 1 undergraduate). Workday facilitates the awarding and packaging processes for these midyear progression students using different financial aid packages, eliminating the need for manual intervention.

ISIR Progression, Activation, and Packaging

Workday categorizes imported ISIRs as
Undergraduate
or
Graduate
using the Grade Level Group classification, which is based on the value of an ISIR’s
Grade Level in College
field. Workday then accounts for Grade Level Group in the ISIR progression and activation workflow.
For award packaging, Workday selects the appropriate active ISIR based on the Grade Level Group that relates to the student's federal student aid (FSA) grade level of their financial aid period record (FAPR). For award years 2023-2024 and prior, packaging uses the active ISIR.
This table shows the relationship between Grade Level Group,
Grade Level in College
, and FSA grade level:
Grade Level Group
Grade Level in College
FSA Grade Level
Undergraduate
  • 1 = First Year (Freshman)
  • 2 = Second Year (Sophomore)
  • 3 = Other Undergraduate (Junior or Senior)
  • (unspecified)
  • 1st year, attended college before
  • 1st year, never attended college
  • 2nd Year (Sophomore)
  • 3rd Year (Junior)
  • 4th Year (Senior)
  • 5th Year (Other Undergraduate)
Graduate
  • 4 = College Graduate, Professional or Beyond (MBA, M.D., Ph.D., etc.)
  • 1st year graduate or professional
  • Continuing graduate or professional
In Workday, Grade Level Group appears as its own field and factors into the following financial aid areas:
  • Action items
  • ISIR transactions and corrections
  • Federal verification
  • Housing plans
  • Mass Operation Management
  • Reports in a student’s Financial Aid profile group
Notes
  • For award years 2024-2025 and later, a student can have only 1 active ISIR within each Grade Level Group. For award years 2023-2024 and earlier, a student can have only 1 active ISIR per award year and federal school code.
  • ISIR progression logic accounts for each Grade Level Group.
  • Workday doesn’t reclassify a student’s Grade Level Group after importing their ISIR.
  • You can use Grade Level Group when creating new business process definitions and configuring rule conditions for the
    ISIR Action Items Event
    and
    Federal Verification Event
business process definitions. Example: requiring proof of citizenship only for undergraduate students.
