Example: Assign Program Focus to Program of Study

This example illustrates how to create a program focus and assign it to a program of study.
Olivia is an administrator for the Music department at AMU. She wants to make
Violin
 a program focus with a program of study type of
Instrument
 for students with
Music
 as their program of study. The music major at AMU requires a program focus.
  • Security:
    Set Up: Academic Structure
     domain in the Academic Foundation functional area.
  • Configure the
    Program of Study Event
     business process and security policy in the Academic Foundation functional area.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Program of Study Types
     task.
  2. Enter these values:
    Option Description
    Name
    Major
    Category
    Official Program
    Credential Granting
    Select the check box.
    Concentration Possible
    Select the check box.
  3. Add a row.
  4. Enter these values:
    Option Description
    Name
    Instrument
    Category
    Program Focus
    Concentration Possible
    Select the check box.
  5. Click
    OK
    .
  6. Access the
    Create Program of Study
     task.
  7. Select these values:
    Option Description
    Effective Date
    Today's date
    Program of Study Type
    Major
  8. Click
    OK
    .
  9. Enter these values:

    Owning Academic Unit

    Academic Level

  10. Click
    Submit

  11. Access the
    Create Program of Study
     task.
  12. Select these values:

    Instrument
    Parent Program of Study
    Music
    Program Name
    Violin
    First Entry Date
    Today's date
  13. Click
    Submit
    .
Olivia can now select
Violin
 as a program focus when she selects
Music
 as the program of study on the
Create Student Applicant
 task.
  • Create another program focus option under the parent program of study of
    Music
    .
  • Assign your program focus to a program area.
