Example: Set Up the Academic Unit Hierarchy for STEM Reporting

This example demonstrates how to create an academic unit hierarchy to support STEM reporting.
You want to configure Alma Mater University (AMU) as an institution with 2 colleges:
  • College of Arts and Sciences
  • College of Engineering
You configure the College of Arts and Sciences to comprise of the:
  • History Department
  • Biology Department
You configure the College of Engineering to comprise of the:
  • Computer Science Department
  • Mechanical Engineering Department
You want to produce a STEM report that includes information from the Biology department, the College of Engineering, and all its departments.
  • Use the
    Maintain Academic Unit Subtypes
     task to create these academic unit subtypes:
    • University
    • College
    • Department
  • Use the
    Create Academic Units
     task to build the academic structure for Alma Mater University.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Academic Unit Subtypes
     task.
    1. Enter or select these values to create a new subtype:
      Field
      Value
      Academic Unit Subtype Name
      Reporting - Top Node
      Use with Academic Unit/ Use with Academic Unit Hierarchy
      Select
      Use with Academic Unit Hierarchy
      Visible on Public Views
      Select the check box.
    2. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  2. Access the
    Create Academic Unit Hierarchy
     task.
    1. Enter or select these values:
      Field
      Value
      Name
      STEM Reporting
      Hierarchy Subtype
      Select
      Subtype
      Reporting - Top Node
      Hierarchy Code
      STEM
      Included Academic Unit
      Select:
      • Academic Unit Subtype
        Department
        Biology Department
      • Academic Unit Subtype
        College
        College of Engineering
    2. Click
      OK
       and
      Done
      .
  3. Access the
    Audit - Academic Unit Hierarchy Setup Data
     report.
  4. To confirm that the academic unit hierarchy for STEM reporting has the proper structure and settings, select
    STEM Reporting
     from the
    Academic Unit Hierarchy
     prompt.
  5. Click
    OK
    .
  6. To view a diagram of the hierarchy, select the related actions from
    STEM Reporting
    . On the
    Academic Unit Hierarchy
     preview window, select the
    Org Chart
     prompt.
Build the STEM report.
