Business View Data Sources
A business view data source is a type of data source that blends together data from multiple Workday business objects and curates the total list of fields. There are both Workday-delivered and custom (or tenanted) business view data sources.
Although a business view data source blends data from multiple business objects, the business view data source itself has its own primary business object with the same name as the data source.
Business views include data transformation stages to blend data from multiple business objects. Depending on the individual business view data source, it might:
- Join data from multiple business objects.
- Union data from multiple business objects.
- Filter instances (records) of data.

A custom business view data source is a tenanted business view data source created by publishing a derived dataset (live), which is a dataset type that enables you to blend data from select Workday Financial Management business objects. Unlike a standard Prism Analytics derived dataset, a custom business view created from a derived dataset (live) queries live Workday data when you run reports.
You create a derived dataset (live) in the
Data Catalog
, apply supported transformation stages, configure security, and publish. Publishing creates a tenanted business view data source available for reporting. For more information, see Derived Dataset (Live).Security Limitations:
