Create a WhatsApp Conversational Messaging Configuration
To configure WhatsApp messaging you must have:
- Access to the Workday Messaging product.
- A Verified Meta Business Portfolio account with two-factor authentication and a user in that system with access to create and manage a WhatsApp Business Account (WABA). See Scale your WhatsApp Business Account Capabilities.
- Workday security:Set Up: Tenant Setup - BP and Notificationsdomain in the System functional area.
- Access to these domains outside of Workday to log in to Meta Business Portfolio:

After a WhatsApp Business Account ID is present in your configuration, you no longer need access to these domains.
The WhatsApp notification channel for Workday Messaging enables you to have conversations with recipients using WhatsApp. Example: Candidate Conversational Messaging for WhatsApp enables you to exchange WhatsApp messages with candidates during the recruitment process.
To set up your initial WhatsApp configuration, you must use both the:
- Maintain Workday Messagingreport in Workday to configure Workday Messaging for WhatsApp.
- Meta screens accessed through Workday to create a WABA and connect it to your tenant.
- Access theMaintain Workday Messagingreport.
- In theWhatsApp Messaging Configurationsection, clickCreate WhatsApp Sender.
- From theCountry of Configurationprompt, select the country for which you’re creating a WhatsApp configuration.Your selection determines the country in which your WhatsApp phone number is provisioned. You can message candidates globally, regardless of the country you select. Candidates see your business name in a WhatsApp conversation. They can see your phone number only if they access the contact details within your business profile.
- On theConfigure WhatsApp Messagingscreen, enter:
- In theBusiness Display Namefield, the name that you want to display when you send a WhatsApp message to a recipient. Workday recommends that you review the WhatsApp guidelines for business display names.
- (Optional) Information in any of the additional fields. Adding information in these fields may increase message recipients' trust of your senders and increase engagement.
- ClickOK.You can check the sender status on theMaintain Workday Messagingreport. You must wait until the new phone number displays in theWhatsApp Sender Numbercolumn before you continue.
- In theWhatsApp Messaging Configurationsection, clickConnect WhatsApp Business Account.
- On theConnect WhatsApp Business Accountpage, clickCreate WhatsApp Business Account.
- On the Facebook login page, enter your login and password.You must use a personal Facebook login to log in to a Meta Business Portfolio.
- On theConnect your account to Workday Messagingpage, clickGet Started.
- From theBusiness portfolioprompt, select the name of your business portfolio, and clickNext.
- Complete the process of creating your WhatsApp Business Account (WABA).
- Select theCreate WhatsApp Business Accountoption.
- From theChoose a WhatsApp Business Account Nameprompt, select your WABA name.You must create a new WABA for each tenant in which you configure WhatsApp, so you may have multiple WABAs to select from.
- In theWhatsApp Business account namefield, enter a new name that describes the purpose of this WABA. Example: WABA Preview or WABA Production.
- From theTimezoneprompt, select the timezone for your business.
- ClickNext.
- ClickConfirmto finish connecting the WABA to Workday Messaging.Your new WhatsApp Business Account ID displays in theWhatsApp Messaging Configurationsection of theMaintain Workday Messagingreport when the configuration process is complete.
- On theWhatsApp Messaging Configurationsection of theMaintain Workday Messagingreport, click the related actions menu in theActionscolumn of the grid, and select to view your sender status.TheStatuscolumn must displayApprovedbefore continuing with the next steps.
- Create templates for WhatsApp in Message Builder and ensure WhatsApp approves them. See: WhatsApp Message Templates in Workday.
