Steps: Set Up Development Items

Configure security for these domains in the Career and Development Planning and Performance Enablement functional areas:
  • Self-Service: Development Items
  • Worker Data: Development Items
  • (Optional)
    Self-Service: Delete Development Item
  • (Optional)
    Worker Data: Delete Development Item
You can configure development items for workers. When development items are enabled in Workday, workers can create development items to note career and personal development expectations outside of their functional goals.
  1. Access the
    Maintain Development Item Statuses
    task.
You can add or update statuses to track the progress of worker development items. You need to map each development item status in your tenant to a Workday-delivered status.
When you enable Talent Optimization in Career Hub, Workday surfaces development items on the
    Plan
    page in the
    Career Hub
. Workers can view their development items with a Workday-delivered status of:
    • Not Started
      or
      In Progress
      on the
      To Do
      tab of the
      Plan
      page.
    • Completed
      on the
      Completed
      tab of the
      Plan
      page.
For more information, see Concept: Career Hub.
Workers can access all their development items, including those with the Workday-delivered
    Not Applicable
    status, on the
    My Development Items
    report.
  2. (Optional) Access the
    Maintain Development Item Categories
    task.
Create categories if you want to organize or group your development items. Example: Creating a course work and training category for development items that involve formal learning.
    Security:
    • Set Up: Skills and Experience
domain in the Worker Profile and Skills functional area.
    • Set Up: Talent
domain in the Talent Pipeline functional area.
  3. (Optional) To configure options in the
    Relates To
    prompt, access the
    Configure Talent Tags
task to set up talent tags for development items.
You can enable workers to link their development items to competencies, job profiles, or work experience.
Example: Amy is improving her spoken French for a required language on the Regional Sales Manager for Eastern Canada position, so she chooses the
    Sales Manager
job profile associated with her target role in
    Relates To
    .
    Security:
    Set Up: Talent
domain in the Talent Pipeline functional area.
