Set Up External Content Lesson Tracking and Grading

Coordinate with your external LMS or other third-party application to ensure they can send tracking statements to Workday by using the Lesson Trackings
REST API.

domain in the Learning functional area.

You can configure external content lessons to record learner progress, numeric scores, and pass/fail grades. This enables Workday to transition these lessons from simple links into trackable enrollments.

If you enable this functionality, lessons remain in an In Progress state until Workday receives a tracking statement or an administrator manually completes the enrollment.

This functionality works for partners who aren’t content partners. Content partner integrations should be done via the Cloud Connect for Learner integration. See Concept: Cloud Connect for Learning Integration Methods.

Follow these steps to enable tracking and grading for an external lesson when creating or editing a course. These steps also apply to the

Schedule Course Offering

and

Edit Course Offering

tasks.

Access the

Create Course

Edit Course

task to create or edit a course.

See Create Learning Courses.

On the

External Content

lesson, select the

Enable External Completion

check box.

Select the

Provide Course Grade

check box if the grade from the external provider should be the official grade for the entire course.

You can only select this check box after you select

Enable External Completion

For courses with both media lessons and external content lessons, to provide a grade for the course, select the

Provide Course Grade

check box for only 1 lesson.

For courses with external content lessons and instructor-led lessons, to provide a grade for the course, select either the

Provide Course Grade

check box for 1 external content lesson or the

Track Grade

check box for 1 or more instructor-led lessons.

Select the

Make Lesson Mandatory

check box.

Click OK
.

If an external LMS or other third-party application doesn’t send a grade for a lesson where you selected

Provide Course Grade

, you can manually enter the

Grade

and

Score

by using the

Manage Enrollment Completion

task.
