About Enhanced Direct Deposit

About Enhanced Direct Deposit

Enhanced Direct Deposit (EDD) enables you to provide workers with the opportunity to manage financial accounts for their payment elections through a streamlined interface with certain financial institutions. EDD is only available to Payroll for the U.S. customers who have at least 1 completed payroll in the current or preceding month.
You can use EDD to enable certain external financial partners for your workers to select for their direct deposit payments.
Through EDD, workers can select these financial partners to execute these actions:

Workday connects workers to the site of their selected financial partner without passing any worker data, enabling them to create or add an account themselves. Workers still retain the ability to manually add their existing bank accounts with external financial partners to their payment elections.

Disabling EDD Financial Partners

When Workday delivers this feature on 2026-09-19:
  • You have until 2026-09-30 to disable financial partners in your tenant that you don’t want your workers to have access to.
  • Effective as of 2026-10-01, your workers will be able to open accounts with the financial partners that you have not disabled and use those accounts for their regular payroll payments.
  • You can enable or disable financial partners that your workers can choose at any time.
To enable or disable the EDD financial partners, access the
Enhanced Direct Deposit tab on the Maintain Payroll Services Configuration
task (secured to the
Set Up: Tenant Setup - Payroll
domain). This tab contains the list of financial partners that are enabled by default for your workers to select to use for their payment elections.
When you disable an EDD financial partner:
  • The partner isn’t available for workers to select in Workday when they update their payment elections.
  • There isn’t an effect on workers’ existing accounts with those partners.
  • Workers can still manage accounts with external financial partners manually through their payment elections.

EDD Enabled for Workers

When a financial partner is enabled in your tenant, U.S. workers see an
Add My Bank Account
page if they navigate to their payment elections.
This page displays a
Connect Instantly
section featuring the enabled financial partners. Selecting a financial partner launches a consent notice informing the worker that they are leaving Workday to open or connect an existing account with the partner.
After successfully creating or connecting their account, workers are redirected back to their Workday payment elections. EDD:
  • Adds the worker’s account in Workday, if it doesn’t already exist.
  • Updates the worker’s payment elections, directing 100% of their payments to the new or selected partner account.
Workday doesn’t update a worker’s payment elections if they have:
  • Pre-existing split distributions.
  • Opted to receive payments as checks.
If a worker has a split distribution or receives payments through checks, Workday displays a message when the worker returns from the partner’s site to:
  • Confirm the partner account has been added to their payment elections.
  • Direct the worker to manually update their payment distributions.
If a worker uses EDD, they still retain the ability to change their payment elections at any time.
You can access the
Partner Payment Elections
report (secured to the the Worker Data: Payroll (Payment Elections) and
Worker Data: Payroll Interface (Payment Elections)
domains) to identify which workers used EDD to connect to a partner account.
