Concept: Visual Model Overview

Model Overview
is an option in the fly-out menu of the main menu when you click
Modeling
. It gives you insight to:
  • Sheet definitions and types.
  • Accounts on sheets.
  • Data flow between accounts and sheets.
  • Account hierarchies.

Model Overview Interface

The
Model Overview
has:
  • The model canvas: The diagram that displays the design and data flow of your model.
  • The tool bar: You can use the version prompt and level prompt to filter the canvas.
  • The
    Elements
panel: You can select accounts to filter the canvas.
When you create new sheets, or build new links to accounts, the canvas automatically updates to reflect the new connections in the model.

How to Interact with the Model Overview

You can interact with the model in different ways.
In the canvas, you can:
  • Zoom in and out.
  • Drag to reposition model elements for different perspectives.
  • Drag to scroll in any direction.
  • Double-click directional arrows to open a data flow table that displays linked details, such as source and target accounts between formulas and account links. Example: You can link to the account in
    Modeling
which to view or change the settings for the account.
  • Double-click sheets to view a list of the sheet components, such as the accounts, levels, dimensions, attributes, assumptions, and restrictions. You can link to the sheet builder in
    Modeling
to explore further or make changes.
  • Double-click account clusters to link to the hierarchies in
    Model Admin
    .
  • Recenter the diagram on the canvas.
In the
Elements
panel, you can:
  • Select accounts to filter the canvas. The
    Model Overview
is the only way to find all the sheets that have general ledger and custom accounts. It's the fastest way to see which cube sheets have general and custom accounts.
  • Expand the list to view the account hierarchies to understand the rollup logic of accounts.
When you double-click on a line or object, all the details for it display even when applying a filter.
