Create Accounts
Security:
- Model includes sheets, accounts, dimensions, and formulaspermission.
- (Optional)Assumptionspermission.
When you first create your model, you generally import the account structure. Then, you can create and edit accounts 1 at a time. When you create an account, it's a leaf account until you add child accounts. Data exists only in leaf accounts.
You can also import bulk changes and new accounts to your structure by using the spreadsheet import.
To avoid import errors, don't alter the Name and Code pairings controlled by the workforce planning configuration manager.

- FTE
You can't create or delete root accounts in any of the account hierarchies. Root accounts are pre-built into your instance.
- SelectModelingfrom the main menu.
- Select the account hierarchy for the new account. As you complete the task, consider:
Option Description General Ledger Accounts- Standardized hierarchy has built-in, root accounts. You can't change, create, or delete root accounts. See Reference: Built-In General Ledger Accounts .
- Hierarchy matches a typical general ledger.
- All accounts you create must roll up to the built-in roots.
- Accounts have stricter settings to follow standard accounting practices and principles.
- Accounts can link to modeled or cube accounts.
- Accounts are available for elimination rules.
- Accounts can be data entry or calculated accounts with default formulas.
- You can add these accounts to standard sheets or cube sheets.
Metric Accounts- A separate hierarchy for calculated accounts that you can organize with account groups.
- Accounts calculate financial ratios and nonfinancial metrics.
- Formulas for the account are the same across versions and levels.
- Rollups follow a different rollup logic than other accounts.
- You can add these accounts to standard sheets.
- The root is calledMetric. You can't change or delete theMetricroot.
Custom Accounts- A separate hierarchy that you can organize with account groups.
- Accounts have flexible settings.
- Accounts can link to modeled or cube accounts.
- Accounts can be data entry or calculated accounts with default formulas.
- You can add these accounts to standard sheets or cube sheets.
- The root is calledCustom. You can't change or delete theCustomroot.
Assumptions- A separate hierarchy that you can organize with account groups.
- Account values are at the top level and automatically repeat at every level.
- Use these accounts to simplify formula references when they represent a driver that doesn't vary by level.
- You can add these accounts to standard sheets.
- The root is calledAssumptions. You can't change or delete theAssumptionsroot.
Modeled Accounts- Separate hierarchies for each modeled sheet.
- Hold data that calculates related values.
- Include these types of accounts:
- Assumptions
- Calculated
- Initial balance
- Timespan
- The root account has the same name as the modeled sheet. You can't change or delete the root account.
Cube Accounts- Separate hierarchies for each cube sheet that you can organize with account groups.
- Include these types of accounts:
- Cube standard.
- Cube calculated accounts.
- Cube assumptions.
- Cube metric accounts.
- The root account has the same name as the cube sheet. You can't change or delete the root account. However, you can remove it so that you can rearrange how the accounts display. SeeRemove the Cube Root Account.
See Create Cube Accounts. - From the account hierarchy list, highlight an account, group, or root.As you complete the task, consider:
Option Description AccountsThe account that you highlight becomes the rollup account of the new account. The data in the new account contributes to the data in the rollup.GroupYou can find the new account in the group that you highlight.Custom, metric, cube, modeled or assumption rootsThe new account doesn't have a parent or rollup account. - From the toolbar, click the type of account you want to create. As you complete the task, consider:
Option Description Create new accountCreates new leaf accounts in these hierarchies:- Assumptions
- Custom
- General ledger
- Metric
Create new system accountCreates new system accounts in these hierarchies:- Custom
- General Ledger
You use system accounts for allocation rules. See Create Allocation Rules. We recommend that you:- Limit the number of system accounts in your model to 20.
- Don't reference them in formulas entered on cube sheets or in cube calculated accounts. See FAQ: What's the best way to reference a system account from a cube sheet?.
Create new groupCreates folder-like organization tools to hold accounts in these hierarchies:- Assumptions

Create new calculated accountAccount hierarchies of modeled sheets only.Creates leaf accounts with default formulas.Create new assumption accountAccount hierarchies of modeled sheets only.Creates driver accounts with the same value for all levels.Create new cube standard accountAccount hierarchies of cube sheets only.Creates new leaf accounts. Cube standard accounts are the same as custom accounts.Create new cube calculated accountAccount hierarchies of cube sheets only.Creates accounts with default formulas. You can also create data entry overrides for specific versions.Create new cube assumption accountAccount hierarchies of cube sheets only.Creates driver accounts with the same value for all levels.Create new cube metric accountAccount hierarchies of cube sheets only.Creates calculated accounts when you don't want the formula to change across versions and levels.Include GL or Custom AccountAccount hierarchies of cube sheets only.Adds accounts from the general ledger and custom hierarchies to the cube sheet hierarchy. - Complete the settings.Account settings change the behavior of the account.Different combinations have different results.Built-in general ledger accounts have some locked settings. The settings are different for each type of account. Add the account to sheets so that you can load or enter data.
