Set Up Cloud Data Connect for Integration Pipeline

Adaptive Planning
  • A standard or cube sheet in Adaptive Planning that doesn't contain splits.
  • Security:
Cloud Data Platform
  • Ensure that your organization has access to a resource with expertise in configuring and administering your selected cloud data platform. If this expertise is not available internally, Workday service partners can provide assistance.
  • The designated expert must be able to:
    • Configure the required authentication method, such as an Azure service principal or a Snowflake programmatic access token.
    • Create and manage tables or views in the cloud data platform.
    • Grant the credentials used for the connection access to the required schemas and tables.
    • If your organization restricts outbound access by domain or IP address, allow list the required domains and IP addresses for Adaptive Planning. For details, see Reference: Adaptive Planning Authentication URLs and IP Addresses.
  • S3 on AWS as the Cloud Object Storage if you're using Databricks for Cloud Data Connect (CDC) and Design Integrations.
The Databricks data source feature is released as Limited Availability. Contact your Named Support Contact to enable this feature. See Reference: Contact Us.
This topic explains how to create a new Cloud Data Connect (CDC) pipeline and how to edit an existing pipeline.
You can create a pipeline that loads data into Adaptive Planning standard sheets or cube sheets from either:
  • Incorta.
  • Microsoft Fabric.
  • Snowflake.
  • Databricks.
Behind the scenes, creating a pipeline automatically generates and bundles these components in Adaptive Planning Design Integrations:
  • A data source.
  • A loader.
  • An integration task.
You can opt out of managing the pipeline as a bundle to manually manage each component separately in Design Integrations.
  1. Select
    Integration
    from the main menu.
  2. Select
    Setup Pipeline
    .
  3. Select where you want to load data from.
  4. Complete the
    Select a Destination
    page:
    Option Description
    Pipeline Name
Enter a name for your pipeline.
    When you clear the
    Opt-in Manage Pipeline
check box, you prepend this name to each separated component in Design Integrations.
    Version
    Select an Adaptive Planning version.
    Sheet
    Select an Adaptive Planning sheet.
    You can only select:
    • Cube sheets.
    • Standard sheets.
Pipelines don't support loading to sheets that contain splits.
All managed pipelines must have unique destinations (version and sheet), when creating, editing a draft, or duplicating a pipeline.
  5. Click
    Download Table Template
    .
  6. Provide the template to your cloud data warehouse administrator so that they can:
    • Create a view that exactly matches the template format and description.
    • (Optional) Create a drill through table. This table should include the required columns, the template structure and custom columns for additional contextual information.
  7. Verify that your administrator:
    • Creates the view from the template.
    • Grants access to the new view to the credentials used for the pipeline.
  8. Complete the
    Configure Connection
    page:
    Option Description
    Credential
Select either an existing credential or create a new one. You can use an existing credential to reuse it across pipeline connections.
Ask your administrator for a credential that can access the view based on the downloaded table template.
    • For Microsoft Fabric, we support
      • Username and password.
      • Application ID and client secret.
    • For Incorta, we support username and password.
    • For Snowflake, we support:
    Server
Enter the Incorta or Microsoft Fabric environment link.
    Port
Enter the port number for the Incorta environment.
    Account
    Enter the Snowflake environment link.
    Unity Catalog Iceberg URL
    Enter the Databricks workspace URL.
    Catalog
    Enter the Databricks warehouse name.
    S3 Region
    Enter the S3 buckets region.
    Database
Enter the warehouse name containing the relevant table or tables from your cloud data warehouse environment.
    Data Source Table
Select the table created in the environment that matches the downloaded table template format.
    Drill Through Table
(Optional) Select the table in the environment that adheres to the structure advised in the template along with any custom columns.
  9. Review your setup.
  10. (Optional) Clear the
    Opt-in Manage Pipelines
check box if you don't want to manage this connection as a pipeline.
When you clear this check box, you must manage the automatically created data source, loader, and task within Design Integrations.
Adaptive Planning only supports Drill Through to Data for CDC managed pipelines, not CDC connections managed through Design Integrations.
  11. Click
    Complete
    .
  12. On the
    Pipelines
    page, click
    Pipelines
to refresh the page and verify
    Connected
    status.
It might take a few minutes to connect the new pipeline.
  13. Select
    All Tasks
    .
  14. Select the task named after your pipeline.
This task is the integration task that we automatically generated when you created the pipeline. You can enter a search term at the top to filter tasks.
  15. Click
    Launch New Task Instance
    .
  16. Verify the period range and plan version.
  17. Select
    Run
    .
    The
    Status
column might take a few moments to update. This column either:
    • Confirms success.
    • Logs errors.
  18. Verify the data in the Adaptive Planning sheet.
  19. Edit a pipeline
You can update destination and connection settings without recreating the pipeline.
Pipelines in Connecting status are view-only until they reach
    Connected
    or
    Disconnected
    status.
  20. Select
    Integration
    from the main menu.
  21. Select
    Manage Integrations
    Pipelines.
  22. Select the pipeline name
    or
    select
    Edit
    from the related actions menu.
  23. Update settings on
    Select A Destination
    and
    Configure Connection
    .
  24. Save your changes.
Workday creates or updates the pipeline connection and loads data from Incorta, Microsoft Fabric, Snowflake, or Databricks to the intended sheet.
