Concept: Hubs Context Filters

Hubs use context filters to drive the data on dashboard, sheet, and report pages so that the data stays accurate and relevant.

You manage hub filters at the page level. Filters fall into these categories:

Static: Core filters available on most pages. You can’t reorder or remove them. Example: Version, Time (or Period), Level, and Currency.

Mutable: Core filters such as Time (or Period), and Currency. If you mute them, they don't display in the page filter toolbar.

Addible: Filters for custom dimensions and attributes that you can add, remove, and reorder. Example: Country Region, Base Pay.

Filter Behavior by Page Type

Based on what’s displaying on a page, your interactions with filters can vary:

On dashboard pages, you can:

Add, remove, and reorder non-core filters.

Enable or disable multi-select.

Mute mutable filters.

Set default filters using the

Edit Filters

option.

On sheet pages, you can:

View filters and set default values for non-core filters.

Set default filter values only for version and level for Standard and Assumption sheets.

On report pages, you can edit default filters.

Whenever you add, remove, reorder, or change the default filter values, the data on the page gets refreshed and filters are applied.

Enabling Multi-Select

On Dashboard pages, you can enable or disable the multi-select option to control how users interact with dimension filters:

When multi-select is enabled, filters (Level, Custom Dimensions, and Attributes) allow multiple value selections.

When multi-select is disabled, filters allow only single value selection. For these filters, selecting the parent dimension such as Country Region also selects all child values for that dimension.

When searching and selecting filters that you can add to your hub pages, the results:

Include only parent-level dimensions.

Exclude dimensions that are already available on the page.

Grouped Filters

A hub can include several pages, and each page can have its own filters. Grouped filters let hub builders link compatible filters across eligible pages so that a single selection follows hub users from page to page.

On personal or checked-out hubs, hub admins can:

Create, edit, and delete grouped filters.

Set the default grouping.

Start with high-level dimensions such as Version and Level, which are compatible on most page types. After you configure groupings, open each page type and change a filter value to confirm that it propagates as you expect.

On cube sheet pages, selectable values are limited to the sheet definition. Empty states appear where the user lacks access to a member.

Hub users can enable or disable grouping for eligible filters at run time. Those choices persist per user and per hub, layered on the default connection set by the hub admin. On the filter toolbar, each groupable filter shows an indicator:

A blue link icon means the filter is grouped and available on multiple pages. Changing its value propagates across supported pages.

A grey link icon means the filter is groupable across multiple pages but isn’t currently grouped. Changing its value updates only the current page.

Grouping Criteria

Grouping works only when a filter is compatible across the pages it spans. When it isn't, some pages participate and others keep their own selection.

You can create a grouped filter when:

The dimension matches across pages.

Example: Version or Level filters are usually connectable. When you create a hub, you can group Version filters on compatible pages by default. When a hub contains multiple versions, you can create multiple version groups.

The pages uses the same filtering mode (single-select or multi-select).

The dimension supports filter grouping and has fewer than 5,000 members. Time and Currency aren’t supported for filter grouping.

What to Expect When Pages Differ

Use Case	What Happens	What to Do
Multi-select on a dashboard, single-select on a sheet (same dimension)	The pages can't share one group selection. A single-select sheet doesn't display in the eligible list for a multi-select dashboard group. Single-select pages take the first value of a multi-select group.	Standardize the selection mode (single-select versus multi-select) across the pages you want in the same group.
A page does not have the dimension	That page is ignored and keeps its own state.	Nothing — unaffected pages keep working normally.
The selected value does not exist on a page	That page is skipped and shows a non-blocking warning; other pages still update.	Select a value common to the pages you need, or accept that the page keeps its prior value.
A report has two parameters for the same dimension. Example: Actual and Plan Version	You are prompted to select which parameter follows the group.	Map the parameter you intend to control; only that one participates.
A conversation or ad-hoc filter overrides a grouped filter	The affected filter is ungrouped so the override can apply.	Re-group the filter from the toolbar when you want it to follow the group again.
