Concept: Custom Questions on Core Question Sets

This topic discusses the considerations of adding custom questions on the drivers and subdrivers of standard Peakon question sets. Example: The
Growth
driver in the Engagement question set.

Overview

Having custom questions on standard drivers impacts the question frequency, algorithm, and participation. These considerations are not applicable when using the
Manual
survey frequency, which asks all active questions.
Our recommendation is to use the
Custom Company Drivers
instead. This would provide the following benefits:
  • External benchmarking on the standard question sets remains accurate.
  • Employees can receive custom questions more frequently.
See Concept: Custom Drivers for more information.

Question Frequency

The driver and subdriver frequency on schedules assumes that each driver and subdriver only has 1 question, as per standard question sets.
Setting driver and subdriver question frequency enables you to choose how often each employee should receive a question from each driver or subdriver. If a driver or subdriver has custom questions in addition to the standard Peakon question, it will take more survey rounds for employees to receive all questions from the specific driver or subdriver.
When using a recurring survey frequency (Example: quarterly), the only way to ensure that each employee receives all questions of a driver or a subdriver in each survey is to set the driver or subdriver frequency to
Always
.
Setting the correct question frequency is particularly important when you've enabled the Onboading and Exit question sets on your survey schedule.

Impact on Algorithm

During each survey round, for each employee, the algorithm probabilistically evaluates which questions are due based on:
  • Question frequency for the driver or subdriver.
  • Number of questions on the driver subdriver.
  • Time since the survey last asked the question.
Generally, the more questions on each driver and subdriver, the further the algorithm pushes them down the queue, making them less likely to be in the final selection. Consequently, this might prolong the time it takes for all questions of a driver or a subdriver to reach all employees.
Drivers or subdrivers with only standard questions are likely to reach all employees over time and thereby have more responses in comparison to those that contain both standard questions and multiple custom questions.
