Concept: Driver and Question Scores
Drivers are collections of questions that enable you to analyze workforce sentiment by providing a shared vocabulary to describe good leadership and a healthy work culture. Driver scores enable you to analyze feedback, identify focus areas, and get practical ideas to improve team engagement.
Workday Peakon is transitioning to a Flexible Listening Question model which provides greater simplicity and flexibility to our question model through a number of enhancements.
For customers who had their Workday Peakon production instances created from the 31st March 2026 onwards, you will use the flexible listening question model unless you opted out.
For customers who had their Workday Peakon production instance created before the 31st March 2026, you will continue to use the existing Workday Peakon Question model until we make it possible for you to upgrade to the flexible listening question model in the 26R2 and 27R1 release cycles.
The Workday Peakon Employee Voice (Peakon) question library includes drivers from these question sets:
- Engagement
- Health and Wellbeing
- Diversity and Inclusion
- Onboarding
- Exit
- Transformation and Change
- COVID-19
- Custom Company Questions
- Environmental, Social and Governance
- ANCC Magnet Nursing Excellence
- Values Questions
For customers using the flexible listening question model, we will no longer be offering the Covid-19 question set.
How Peakon Calculates Scores
Peakon updates aggregated scores during every completed survey round. The current score on each driver is always an aggregation of each employee's latest contribution to that driver, as long as it's within the visibility window.
Each time an employee answers a new survey, their latest scores for each driver replace their previous scores contributing to the current score. However, you can still view historical scores for previous rounds.
Each driver, including the main engagement driver, contains its own set of questions. Driver scores are the average of each employee's own overall driver score, rather than an average of the questions relating to the driver.
Score Calculation Example
This example explains how Peakon calculates the overall score for the Autonomy driver within the engagement question set. Imagine your visibility window is 1 year.
- During each survey round, Peakon identifies each employee's latest score for each of the 3 Autonomy questions (1 driver question, 2 subdriver questions).
- From these scores, Peakon only keeps scores that employees submitted within the last 1 year (52 weeks, exactly).
- Peakon averages the 3 scores for each employee to get all Autonomy driver-level scores.
- Peakon averages all employee Autonomy driver-level scores to get the Autonomy score at team or company level, depending on the segment.
Now, imagine you add a custom question to the Flexibility subdriver from Autonomy, so that there are 2 Flexibility questions. In that case, the Flexibility subdriver score from each employee is an average of the 2 questions. The overall Autonomy score per employee is still the average of the 1 driver question and 2 subdrivers.
In the Flexible listening question model, to avoid this double average calculation, when you add a custom question to a driver, that question is its own standalone question with a unique question title, that is equal to all other questions within the driver. Using the Autonomy driver as an example, with the addition of a customer question, the autonomy score per employee would be the average of the 4 questions that now make up that driver. Each question contributes equally to the score.
Scores Dashboards
Drivers dashboards enable you to gain more insight on the driver's main score, comments, and how scores vary between segments.
Each question category within the drop down menu's on the
All Scores
page (under Insights) contains its own driver set. To reveal subdrivers, expand the subdrivers
option under each driver. Clicking into a driver or subdriver opens their respective dashboards. For managers using the Flexible listening question model, they will see the terminology of
"questions"
instead of sub-drivers.From the driver dashboard you can view:
- Comments
- Details on the main score benchmark
- Highlighted topics
- Participation
- Scores by segment
You can also view recommended actions and other resources to improve the driver score on the
Improve
tab on each driver dashboard.
