Set Overlapping Segments Threshold

Set Overlapping Segments Threshold

    access.
The
Unique employees across two segments
setting controls the required number of unique respondents between 2 segments that have a large employee overlap. This setting reduces the possibility of using deduction to infer scores and comments from small groups. While the
Number of responses
setting hides segments below the threshold, the unique employees across two segments setting hides segments that are too large to protect the minority group from being identified through elimination.
When the dashboard detects a conflict, it suggests an alternative segment. Visibility varies between managers based on the specific segments they can access.

  2. Set the
    Unique employees across two segments
    setting.
The algorithm prevents users from deducing individual responses by comparing the participant counts of different data segments. If the difference between two accessible segments is lower than the required threshold, Workday hides the smaller or more specific segment. This ensures that even through the process of elimination or comparison, individual identities remain protected.
The setting works in 3 ways, but only the first check applies to global administrators:
  • Filtering data by a subsegment: A team contains 10 employees, and 9 are female. If the female segment is visible, you could infer the scores of the 1 male employee. Setting Unique employees across two segments to 2 hides the female segment to prevent this risk.
  • Viewing a direct reports segment: A manager has an All Reports segment of 12 employees and a Direct Reports segment of 10 employees. If both are visible, the manager can infer the answers from the 2 indirect reports. Setting the threshold to 3 prevents this deduction.
  • Viewing a segment in multiple contexts: A director has access to a senior manager's All Reports segment (10 employees) and a Sales department segment (12 employees). The 2 unique employees are the senior manager and the director. If both are visible, the director can infer the senior manager's answers. Setting the threshold to 3 hides the smaller segment.
