Home Page and Site Navigation in CLM R2

Workday introduces a dedicated home page and a vertical navigation bar to accelerate task completion and improve discoverability, as well as leveraging AI to enhance search results for questions requiring exhaustive lists or specific document counts.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
The new interface centralizes active requests, executed documents, and pinned content into a unified hub. Ask AI integrates directly with system search filters to automate complex data retrieval. This enables you to generate complete, accurate datasets from natural language queries with a single click, minimizing the risk of making decisions based on partial information. Additionally, you can customize your workspace layout to match your daily routine.
Changes
With this release:
  • We replace the horizontal top toolbar with an expandable vertical navigation bar enabling access to
    Home
    ,
    Ask AI
    ,
    Workflows
    ,
    Documents
    ,
    Dashboards
    ,

  • Sign in to your Workday CLM account to view the new default
    Home
    page and navigation structure.
Requests are only visible in the
    Recent Activity
    and
    Your Work
sections of the Home page for customers on the CLM R2 release.
  • When
    Ask AI
    transfers a query to the
    Search
page, review the pre-filled filters and click
    Run
to execute the query. Workday doesn’t run the search automatically.
Considerations

Redesigned Workflow Builder in CLM R2

With this release, Workday enhances the Workflow Builder with a refreshed user experience and improved agentic functionality, enabling you to create and modify contract workflows using natural language prompts. This feature uses AI to automatically extract data fields from uploaded documents, build an intake form, and create the necessary review stages to route the document. You can also manage intake forms through a new 4-tab layout and add template-free workflows for legal intake and task routing.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
This feature significantly reduces the learning curve for new users by eliminating the need to manually format document templates with placeholder tags. We also add multi-document workflows and multiple forms to increase your flexibility in collecting information. By centralizing data into reusable unified fields, we streamline data entry and ensure consistent reporting across the organization. You can now accelerate complex approvals by customizing stages with parallel or sequential routing. Additionally, the updated intake form with side-by-side document previews makes it easier to connect fields to questions in context.
Changes
With this release:
  • We introduce multi-document workflows to generate, review and approve multiple documents within a single workflow.
  • We introduce the ability to add forms at any stage in a workflow. A new form builder launches in an expanded view, keeping the rest of the workflow visible as you edit.
  • We replace the legacy 4-stage review process with customizable stages and phases, enabling you to insert new stages after the default
    Intake Form
    .
  • We add
    Builder AI
to generate a workflow framework from a simple text prompt and an optional document upload. Workday uses AI to automatically map placeholder fields within document templates to a centralized list of unified fields. We recommend that you establish best practices for reviewing, editing, and verifying the accuracy of AI-generated content before use.
  • We add the ability to configure approval tasks within a phase to run in order sequentially or simultaneously in parallel.
  • We add a conversational chat interface to the builder that uses natural language, facilitating frequent activities such as editing task assignments, adding review stages, or asking questions about a workflow.
  • We introduce side-by-side
    Form Preview
, enabling you to map fields directly and configure default answers for each questionnaire. You can create conditional text from the form editor and the preview, and test document data before publishing the workflow.
  • We update signer configurations to allow customizable signer labels instead of fixed numbering.

Requests in CLM R2

Workday introduces a redesigned Requests page that replaces the Tickets page to provide a modern, centralized workspace for managing contract lifecycle events, document processing, and task approvals. The new layout provides a My Tasks section, AI-generated summaries, and stage tracking to streamline how you view and manage requests. We also rename contract workflow tickets as requests, and assign each request a unique universal identifier (UUID) to improve tracking and visibility.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
The Requests page includes the My Tasks section, AI-generated summaries, and stage tracking, which increase visibility into approval statuses for better overall auditability. We also add contextual side panels, sticky headers, and accordion layouts that reduce scrolling and increase workflow efficiency. Additionally, we provide new functionality that automatically saves form progress to system fields, which improves data accuracy.

Workflow Dashboards in CLM R2

Workday introduces enhanced workflow dashboards that expand the data available for contract reporting. With this update, Requests dashboards now include data fields originating from both forms and the documents themselves. We also add granular operational reporting functionality that allows you to track cycle times and statuses across custom workflow stages and task groups.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
These enhancements build upon the customizable search, dashboard, and reporting capabilities in the Contract Search and Reporting functional area. By incorporating unified fields, you can chart specific data fields from forms or pre-signature documents, resolving a long-standing reporting limitation. You can also track how many requests are in a specific custom stage, such as legal review, across multiple workflows. Furthermore, you can break out cycle time by tracking how long requests remain in those stages to better identify workflow bottlenecks.
Changes
With this release:
  • We maintain existing parity so that all existing workflow
    Dashboards
continue to support existing filters, charts, and results table columns.
  • We add the ability to use unified fields for dashboard charts, filters, and columns in the
    Results
    table.
  • You can now create workflow
    Dashboards
for all workflow stages and task groups.
  • We deprecate the
    Phase
concept within workflow reporting and replace it with the
    Task Group
    concept.

Unified Fields in the CLM R2 Field Manager

With this release, Workday provides a centralized hub that enables administrators to create, define, and manage custom fields across the platform. You can configure field definitions and response options in a single location and reuse them across multiple workflows. The platform unifies field definitions, sharing them across pre-signature workflows and the post-signature Contract Intelligence repository. This feature also provides new data types and relational field lookups to automate data entry.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
By establishing a single source of truth for fields, we help enforce standardized language, guarantee data integrity, and prevent formatting errors or spelling variations. Additionally, you can use
Field Lookups
to accelerate the intake process and minimize human error by automatically populating related secondary data based on a primary selection, eliminating the need for manual data entry.
Changes
With this release:
  • We replace the legacy
    Data Fields
    settings page with the new
    Field Manager
settings hub to enable administrators to better manage field data setup and maintenance in a single location.
  • We introduce
    Field Lookups
, which are relational tables that bind associated field values together. Example: When a user selects a primary value such as a vendor name,
    Field Lookups
can automatically populate the vendor's category code with the retrieved data.
  • We add new data types, including
    Boolean
    ,
    Address
    ,
    Monetary Amount
    , and
    Link (URL)
    .
  • We transition away from dedicated UI field types (such as
    Dropdown
    ,
    Checkbox
    , and
    Radio
) and instead allow administrators to define response options and display options for any relevant data type.
  • We add a
    Used in workflows
    list in the
    Edit Field
panel, allowing administrators to identify and locate field references before making modifications.
  • We enable administrators to create and reorder field locations to group related fields.
  • We include the ability to add or modify bulk response options using CSV export and import, appending new values only.

CLM R2 Integrations Updates

Workday updates Contract Lifecycle Management (CLM) and Contract Intelligence (CI) integrations to support the transition to CLM R2. This supports connectivity and capabilities for the Salesforce Connector, SAP Ariba, Microsoft Word, as well as eSignature providers.
This release is currently available to new customers who purchased Contract Lifecycle Management after September 30. We will enable migration for existing customers starting in November 2026 and continuing through June 2027.
Business Benefits
These enhancements ensure continuity for your existing contract workflows while upgrading to the new CLM platform. You can continue working in familiar environments, such as drafting in Microsoft Word or managing sales processes in Salesforce, while leveraging native AI capabilities and centralized contract data to improve efficiency.
Changes
We update multiple integration points for the CLM R2 transition:
Integration
Updates
Microsoft Word Connector
  • We redesign the Workday CLM AI Tool Microsoft Word Add-In so that it runs natively in the Microsoft Word task pane.
  • We introduce
    AI Review
, which uses AI to compare the open document against a selected playbook, groups findings by guideline, and applies suggested language as tracked changes in Microsoft Word.
  • We introduce AI Editing; Workday uses AI to process plain-language requests directly in Microsoft Word to draft redlines, flag consistency risks, and provide rationale based on general legal knowledge.
  • Playbooks remain read-only in Word and are managed in the Workday CLM web platform.
eSignature Integration
  • We introduce native multi-document support for eSignature workflows.
  • We update signature placeholder mapping to require fixed structured placeholder syntax directly in the document rather than mapping arbitrary placeholder text.
  • We convert these structured placeholders to the Adobe Sign or DocuSign anchor tags before sending.
