Set Up the Data Cloud Functional Area

Security: These domains in the System functional area:
  • Security Administration
  • Security Configuration
To access Workday Data Lake, you need to set up the Data Cloud functional area. This custom functional area establishes the authorization perimeter required to register secure API Clients for Data Lake.
The Data Cloud functional area may already be configured in your tenant. To verify, follow the steps below. If the functional area doesn’t exist, follow the steps to create it.
Custom Functional Area framework setup must be initiated, tested, and audited within a Sandbox or Implementation (Non-Production) tenant environment. Upon verified validation, configurations can be promoted to the Production (PROD) environment.
    Check if the Data Cloud functional area is already configured in your tenant:
  1. Access the Maintain Functional Areas task.
  2. In the Functional Area column, find Data Cloud and ensure the Enabled check box is selected. If the Data Cloud functional area doesn’t display in the grid, skip to the Create the Data Cloud functional area steps below.
  3. Access the
    Activate Pending Security Policy Changes
    task.
    1. Add an appropriate comment and click
      OK
      .
    2. Review the changes, check the
      Confirm
      check box, and click
      OK
      .
  4. Create the Data Cloud functional area:
  5. Access the
    Create Functional Area
    task.
  6. From the
    Domain Group without Functional Area
    prompt, select
    Data Cloud
    .
  7. Select the
    Confirm
    check box.
  8. Click
    OK
    .
  9. Activate pending security policy changes. See step 3 above.
