About Core Reporting Agent

About Core Reporting Agent

The Core Reporting Agent is a conversational AI agent that enables users to:
  • Analyze and explore data to answer questions about enabled reports.
  • Discover and navigate to alternative Workday reports and tasks when your inquiries extend past the data available in your active report session.
  • Summarize report outputs to generate concise overviews of complex datasets.
The Core Reporting Agent simplifies data access and improves data-driven decision-making by providing automated data exploration and information summarization.
The agent provides answers to complex data inquiries. It uses the current context of which report you're viewing for data analysis and it enforces your existing security permissions so that you can only access data based on your assigned security groups.

Skills

The Core Reporting Agent uses the Data Analysis and Exploration skill and the Redirection and Navigation skill.
The Data Analysis and Exploration skill enables you to:
  • Perform contextual data analysis and gain insights on enabled Advanced reports.
  • Interact with the data on your reports through multi-turn conversations and generate basic summaries using natural language questions, such as descriptive, summation, anomaly, trend, and outlier questions.
  • Review detailed explanations of how the agent arrived at its answers to ensure source transparency and build trust.
  • Receive suggested follow-up prompts from the agent.
You can use the Redirection and Navigation skill from the home page, a non-report page, or any supported or unsupported report page. You are not restricted to using this skill on a report page. This skill enables you to:
  • Discover and navigate to specific Workday reports and tasks you have access to when your request goes beyond the data available in your active report.
  • Streamline task completion via redirection. When you query the agent, Workday finds the relevant authorized reports or tasks and and provides a link to your selection. When you click the link, Workday opens the report or task in the same browser tab, so you can continue your conversation with the agent in the same session.
In addition, you can:
  • Engage in complex, multi-turn conversations to conduct deeper analysis of your report data.
  • View your prompt history.

Language Support

The Core Reporting Agent supports interactions in these languages:
  • English
  • French
  • French Canadian
  • German
  • Japanese
  • Spanish
  • Dutch
Since the Core Reporting Agent doesn’t officially support interactions outside these languages, recommended prompts might display in the language associated with a user’s locale.
You can’t change the language used for prompts within the same agent session. To use a different prompt language, start a new session.
Core Reporting Agent might not support custom reports with report definitions entered in a non-English language. This behavior depends on tenant translation configuration and user language settings.
When you use the
Translate Custom Report
task, ensure that translated report labels and column headings are accurate and relevant. Irrelevant or inaccurate translations can affect the agent’s ability to interpret report content and respond to questions.

Limitations

  • You can only enable the agent to analyze data for Advanced reports.
  • When you submit a query to the agent using Workday Chat, you can’t cancel or stop the processing mid-execution from the chat panel.
  • The agent doesn’t support:
    • Scheduled reports.
    • Reports that run in the background.
    • Proxy sessions. Users must be signed in directly with their authorized enterprise credentials.
  • The agent can analyze only reports that fall within Workday's file size limit for reports run in the Workday UI. See: Reference: Reporting Limits.
  • The Core Reporting Agent can only analyze the report you have open when you prompt the agent. It can't analyze reports you aren't viewing.
  • For navigational queries, the agent only suggests and redirects you to tasks and reports that your user account has security access to.
  • When you open the Core Reporting Agent from a report, the agent prepares the report data before it can answer questions about that report. For large or complex reports, report data preparation for the agent conversation can take longer than expected, particularly when the report includes a large number of filters or calculated fields. If the agent can't complete the request within 15 minutes, it times out and displays a message asking you to rerun your request with a narrower date range or additional filters.
  • After the initial report data preparation, follow-up questions in the same conversation are typically faster, although response times can vary based on the complexity of the user prompt.
  • For requests that return large result sets, the agent shows how many results are returned but may summarize or display a subset of the total results for readability. The summary and displayed table might not include all available data. To get more specific results, narrow your request or apply filters to the report.

Example

You need a summary of your team's performance before a check-in. Instead of reviewing all the data manually, you want to ask questions in plain text to receive an automated summary and ask follow-up questions to explore specific details. You also want to act on those insights by finding a related task without leaving your current session.
To do this, you access the
My Team’s Performance Reviews
report and click the Workday Chat icon. You can enter a prompt asking the agent to summarize the data. Example:
Summarize my team's performance
. From there, you can ask follow-up questions to explore the data further. Example:
Which region had the highest overall performance score?
To take action, you can tell the agent what you want to do. Example:
I need to schedule a compensation review for my lowest-performing region.
The agent finds the relevant authorized report or task that you can open in the same browser tab so you can act on your findings without interrupting your session.
