domain in the Student Records functional area. You can limit the number of units that students can enroll in during an academic period. You can create limits for these stages of the registration process:
Registration Stage | Description |
|---|---|
Registration appointments | Student registrations before the Open Enrollment Start date control. |
Open enrollment | Student registrations on or after the Open Enrollment Start date control. |
Students are subject to enrollment unit limits based on the policy you create for their academic unit and level configuration, or program of study.
You can also apply enrollment unit limits to specific student populations. Example: You give students in the freshman cohort a lower enrollment unit limit than sophomores.
- Access theMaintain Enrollment Unit Limit Policytask.
- On theDefaulttab, specify the range of units in which students can enroll for academic periods or period types not specified under theOverall Period OverridesandSpecific Period Overridestabs. To specify the minimum and maximum units in which students can enroll during:
- Student registration appointments, use theEnrollment Appointment Unit Limit Rule Setgrid.
- Any registration activities after the registration appointment window, use theOpen Enrollment Unit Limit Rule Setgrid.
- As you complete the task, consider:OptionDescriptionOrderSpecify the order in which Workday applies the rules. Place the most restrictive rules at the top.Example: Diego is a sophomore on academic probation. Sophomores have a maximum unit limit of 15. Students on academic probation have a maximum unit limit of 12. When you list the rule for academic probation before the rule for sophomores, Diego can only enroll in a maximum of 12 units.Student GroupingsSelect the student groupings that you want to create specific unit limits for. Workday applies the topmost rule to students first. You must have 1 blank row for students who aren't part of a student grouping.Example: You configure enrollment unit limits for these student groupings in this order:
- Honors Studentshave a unit minimum of 6.
- Undergraduate Athleteshave a unit minimum of 3.
- All other students have a unit minimum of 1.
- (Optional) On theOverall Period Overridestab, specify enrollment unit limits for an academic period type.Workday uses your configuration for all standard academic periods with this period type.Example: If you apply 12 maximum units to the Fall Semester period type, then all standard academic periods with the Fall Semester type have a maximum of 12 units.
- (Optional) On theSpecific Period Overridestab, specify enrollment unit limits for a nonstandard academic period type.Workday uses your configuration for all nonstandard academic periods within this period type. When you select theInclude with Standard Limitcheck box, the number of units you specify also count towards the limits of any standard periods it starts within.Example: The nonstandard Fall Express period begins within the standard Fall period. You configure those periods to enable students to register for a maximum of:
- 3 units for the Fall Express period.
- 15 units for the Fall period.
Include with Standard Limitcheck box, then the Fall Express unit limit also applies to the Fall period. Students who register for 3 units in the Fall Express period can only register for a maximum of 12 units for the Fall period.
You can view the policies on the
Academic Policy Viewer
report. When students withdraw from a course, that course continues to count towards their enrollment unit limit.
