Set Up Program Completion Application Policies
- To configure class standing requirements, create class standing values. See Steps: Set Up Class Standing Policies.
- Create Student Eligibility Rules. To configure a unit requirement, create eligibility rules with aUnit Requirementtype.
- To enable students to select different name types for their diplomas, create the available name types. See Steps: Set Up Worker Names .

Workday enables students to declare their intent to graduate by applying for program completion. You can configure program completion application policies that determine who is eligible to apply for program completion, when they can apply, and what information to collect on their application.
When you don't configure a policy, students don't have to apply for program completion, but you can still confer program completions.
- Access theMaintain Program Completion Application Policytask.
- Select anAcademic Unit/Academic LevelorProgram of Study.When you select an academic unit and level, all subordinate academic units and programs of study inherit the policy.
- Select anExistingdefinition or enter anEffective Dateto create a new snapshot of the policy.
- To configure the details of the policy, select theApplication Availablecheck box.When you don't select the check box, the policy has the same effects as a policy with the check box selected and no other details configured.Workday doesn't prevent access to program completion application tasks when you clear this check box. To disable program completion applications, prevent access to the initiating actions on theApply for Program Completion Eventbusiness process security policy.
- Configure the details of the policy.As you complete the task, consider:
Option Description Class Standing Required(Optional) Select the class standings students must have to apply for program completion. Requiring a class standing enables you to filter the student population that applies and better manage the completion workflow.When you select multiple class standings, students with any of the selected class standings can apply for program completion.When you don't make a selection, students with any class standing can apply for program completion.Students must meet both the class standing requirement and any unit requirement eligibility rules.Unit Requirement Eligibility Rule(Optional) Select an eligibility rule that determines the number of units the student must complete to be eligible to apply for program completion.When you don't make a selection, students with any number of units completed can apply for program completion.Students must meet both this rule and any class standing requirements.Allow Students to Select Different Name Type for Diploma(Optional) Select to enable students to choose how their name displays on their diploma.When you don't select this check box, Workday uses legal names.Name Types AvailableAdditional Name Types Available(Optional) Select the name types that are available for students to choose from.Workday delivers name types ofLegalandPreferred. When you configure both for the policy, Workday automatically populates preferred names on applications. When a student doesn’t have a preferred name, Workday automatically populates their legal name.Additional name types are the custom values that you can configure on theMaintain Name Typestask.When you don't make a selection, Workday uses legal names.Academic Periods Available for Application(Optional) Specify the number of academic periods in which students can apply for program completion. This field works in conjunction with the Program Completion Application Deadline date control to enable you to define when students can apply for completion.Example: In Fall 2024, a student applies for program completion. Their admin made 3 academic periods available for application. The last day to apply is October 15. If the student applies:- Before or on October 15, they can apply for completion in Fall 2024, Spring 2025, or Summer 2025.
- After October 15, they can apply for completion in Spring 2025, Summer 2025, or Fall 2025.
When this number is zero, students can only apply for program completion in the current academic period.Allow Commencement RSVPSelect to enable students to RSVP for Commencement on their program completion application. This data is for reporting purposes only.
