Reference: GPA Calculations

Workday calculates the GPA based on various reporting items using period and cumulative statistics. GPAs calculated with period statistics refers to all registrations that are contained within an Academic Period Record (APR). GPAs calculated with cumulative statistics refers to all registrations contained within the APR and any prior APR. You can report on GPA for courses taken internally or externally.

GPA Report Field	Business Object	Calculation	Updated When	Where the GPA is Calculated
Cumulative GPA	Student Cohort	Cumulative GPA for all students in this Cohort.	Derived when report field is submitted.	Calculated by getting all the records currently in the cohort, adding up all cumulative GPAs from each cohort members latest Financial Aid period record, and then dividing that by the number of records currently in the cohort. This is only calculated for Manual Cohorts, not Criteria Based cohorts.
Cumulative GPA	Student External Credit Assignment	Cumulative GPA for the student’s External Credential only.	External Transcript is edited.	Both the Cumulative GPA and the Most Recent Credential - Cumulative GPA refer to the same editable field on an External Transcript’s Credential Assignment. Workday doesn’t calculate the information in this field.
Degree GPA	Student Program of Study Record	GPA for the degree associated with this Program of Study Record.	The Student's Program of Study is Completed. This returns empty until completed and uses the most recent successful completion of Academic Progress Report for Academic Record.	In Residence and Transfer Credit. Taken from everything that satisfied an academic requirement, including registrations that didn't satisfy the requirement due to a failing grade.
GPA	Grade Requirement Eligibility Rule	GPA as calculated by the Grade Requirement Eligibility Rule that you configured on the Create Student  Eligibility Rule task.	Edited on the Student Eligibility Rule.	This returns the value entered in the GPA qualifier field when creating or editing a Student Eligibility Rule with eligibility rule type of Grade Requirement.
GPA	Program of Study GPA	GPA for a specific Program of Study.	Most recent successful completion of Academic Progress Report for Academic Record.	In Residence and Transfer Credit. Dependent on Configure Grade Point Averages Policy.
GPA	Student Application GPA	GPA as listed on the student’s application. This report field isn’t calculated by Workday.	Assigned	Can be assigned to different student applications through various different means such as GPA calculator, manual entry, mass operation, or worksheets.
Most Recent Credential - Cumulative GPA	Student External Transcript	Cumulative GPA of the most recently earned credential for the student external transcript. If multiple credentials share the most recent date, the report field returns the highest Cumulative GPA.	External transcript is edited.	Selects the Cumulative GPA from whichever credential has the most recent date. If 2 credentials are earned on same date, the highest Cumulative GPA is returned. Any credentials without Cumulative GPA will be ignored. This field always returns a GPA when any credential on a transcript has a Cumulative GPA.
Program of Study GPA	Program of Study GPA	Program of Study GPA instance.	The Student's Program of Study is Completed. This returns blank until completed and uses the most recent successful completion of Academic Progress Report for Academic Record.
