Example Steps: Calculate Enterprise Award Amounts

Example Steps: Calculate Enterprise Award Amounts

This example illustrates how to create calculations for enterprise award amounts.
Alma Mater University awards the Enterprise Award to students who are registered for 13 or more units, with a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or above.
For the 2019-2020 and 2020-2021 award years, the per-unit rate for every unit above 12 units is:
Financial Aid Award Year
Between 13-15 Units
Between 16-18 Units
More than 18 Units
2019-2020 Award Year
780
730
700
2020-2021 Award Year
795
730
700
The university awards students with higher cumulative GPAs higher percentages of the unit-based amounts. The GPA-based percentages are:
Cumulative GPA
Percentage
Greater than 3.7
70% of the overtime unit amount.
Greater than or equal to 3.2 and less than 3.7
30% of the overtime unit amount.
Greater than or equal to 3.0 and less than 3.2
10% of the overtime unit amount.
  1. Create a lookup table with the per-unit rates for every unit above 12.
  2. Create a lookup table with percentages based on GPA.
  3. Create a step-based condition to exclude students with 12 or fewer units.
  4. Create a step-based calculation to calculate enterprise award amounts based on:
    • Financial award year.
    • GPA.
    • Number of units.
The calculation is available for you to add to a student award item. You can view the calculation on the
All Step Based Calculations
report.
When you calculate the Enterprise Award for these students in the 2020 Fall Semester, which is in the 2020-2021 award year, you get these amounts:
Student
Enterprise Award Amount
Student A
  • Enrolled in 17 units
  • GPA: 3.5
1095.00
Student B
  • Enrolled in 21 units
  • GPA: 3.9
3920.00
Student C
  • Enrolled in 15 units
  • GPA: 3.0
238.50
Create a student award item for the Enterprise Award and add the calculation to it as an amount calculation.
